So searching the web I had found this. Funny as this is almost exactly the same bike, even has the same chain. This is what I'm wanting it to look like in the end.

I will always and forever regret selling my '92 Rockhopper. It would have made such a cool city cruiser/bruiser bike...

I was recently gifted this beautiful Colnago Decor MTB from the brief period in the 90s when Colnago dabbled in mountain bikes.

The bike was originally outfitted with Campy MTB components, also only on the market for a brief period.
Anyway, to the story about the bike and how it came into my possession.
12 or 13 years ago, an elderly gentleman kept showing up at my shop, and every time I saw him, he would be riding a different bike. When I asked how many bikes he had, he couldn't tell me for sure, but he thought around 9 or 10.
At the time, I was doing a lot of IGH conversions, (my Shimano rep told me more than anyone in the country) and the gentleman was interested in trying one out. I installed a Shimano Alfine hub in one of his bikes, and he loved so much, he had me convert 3 more. This Colnago was one of them.
We struck up a friendship, he even worked for me part time, and he continued riding, but as his health declined, he rode less and less, and divested himself of the bulk of his bike collection.
Fast forward to a couple of months ago, my friend is now 83 years old, and has faced the sad reality that his declining health means his riding days are over. He was down to his last two bikes, which were his favorites, the Colnago, and a Rocky Mountain Metro, which I had also fitted with an Alfine hub.
His fondest wish was that these two bikes go to a good home, and he wanted me to have them. I was blown away to say the least, and while the frames are quite small for me, I am able to ride them comfortably with extended stem and seatpost, and to honor his wishes, they will stay in my stable forever.

.

Wow, cool bike and cooler story. Almost makes owning a bike shop worth it

What's the plan for the bike? Period restore? Retro-mod? Leave as is?

Mostly leave as is with a few changes. I think it would look better with black crank, seatpost, brakes and stem to match the hubs and rims. That wide saddle has to go too, but functionally, I like it fine as it is.

Talked this 86' MB2 out of the bushes at a garage sale. All original except seat post and rear wheel, Diabolo. I was going to look for the missing parts, but it works fine as is.

1995 Marin Muirwoods.
I bought this bike brand new in 1995. I rode thousands of countless km's on paved roads with Specialized 1.25" Fat Boy slicks(went thru several sets). It's been sitting for 5+yrs since getting a couple of Road bikes.
I just put on some MTB tires, swapped out the SPD pedals and tuned up the bike. It still ride so smooth. It will be my Swiss Army utility bike moving forward. It brings back many good memories......

Correct, hopefully he comes out for more rides so I can let him know. Also want to see his Peugeot that's been hanging for 30 years.

Fall is a great time for MTB, time to get more in.
I got out last weekend, but rain and wet trails kept me on the road this past.

Saw this thread and my morning coffee lasted thru 11 pages, only 100 more to go! Got this GT Timberline a few years ago to chase Gus, my current GSP Rescue, around our local timber and fire roads. Been watching locally for something cheap with working front suspension. Don

Miyata

Turned this old mountain miyata hybrid into a touring bad boy for my tall friend. Lugged frame, made in japan- made a custom brake hanger for it that has absolutely zero bend when the front brake is pulled : ) knife attached to the rear rack and a license plate to deter thieves. It got a big basket attached to the front and a brooks is in the future. It's slow but steady and comfortable. Love converting these old steel frames into tourers - this forum rules keep em' coming

Picked up this parts bike today. Thought I'd post some pictures before I strip it down. 90's Easton Yeti ARC. Every picture of one I've found has a crack in the seat tube clamp area. This also is cracked in the headtube. Too bad. Weighs 23 pounds as built with XTR group.

Wow! Rare bird. There's a guy called Second Spin who had one of these repaired by Frank the Welder and repainted, decallee, and built to original spec.
