Hey,

I just got a Nishiki Olympic which is from around 1990. It has a nub on the left seatstay. Does anyone know what its purpose is?

Thanks,
Chris

Bikes: Many

Chris,

I had to go look at another post in Bicycle Mechanics this morning because your message is so similar...

BTW - It is a chain hanger.

Edit... Wouldn't that be the right seat stay?

Thanks. Yeah, definately the right. I'm a bit dyslexic at times. What specifically does one use a chain hanger for (obviously hanging the chain!)?

Nevermind, that other post answers this. How bizarre that we both post questions about our turquoise old road bikes on the same day!

Bikes: 1 trek, serotta, rih, de Reus, Pogliaghi and finally a Zieleman! and got a DeRosa

If your are going to remove rear wheel you lift the
chain off of the cogs and onto the hanger. It
keeps the chain from getting in the way of removal,
and makes a handy place to "hang it" so it isn't just
hanging across the chainstay dirtying up the bike.

I suppose this means you have too much time on your hands, OR we read the same threads.

Anyway, it is kinda interesting. You don't see that color much.
