Overrated Paramount part 2

What do you think this one will go for? https://cgi.ebay.com/Schwinn-Paramoun...QQcmdZViewItem

It isn't quite as desirable due to the large size but is sure looks nice. Only time will tell. I believe this particular bike was mentioned in my last Overrated Paramount post. I wonder what the Peugot Troll will dig up this time.

I'd like to have it, and I'd pay the starting price willingly.

I wish it had Campy brakes, but other than that it is pretty darn close to perfect.

Bikes: 1 trek, serotta, rih, de Reus, Pogliaghi and finally a Zieleman! and got a DeRosa

Those Weinmann were standard on the Paramount, the campy
sidepulls were an upgrade.

I'd say this one should go for about $1500.00, that is if there
are tall folk looking for a chrome paramount.

Guess I'm lucky.

Got this one on ebay 2 years ago for 450. shipped, slightly dusty from storage; added the Campagnolo brakes myself. I can tell you, fitting the Campagnolo brakes to the touring frame is a struggle; dropbolt in the rear and some filing of the slots in the front calipers to move the shoes down, even on 27" wheels. This one has a really high bottom bracket for some reason, maybe it was a custom order.

Typically Paramounts are not high on the desirability list, but I always wanted a chrome one...

I wonder is I could fool them by chrome plating my old Waterford?

dbakl,

Nice looking bike! What year is your Paramount and does it have tubular rims with sew-ups?

Most stuff on eBay sells for fair market value, but there are the exceptions. Some items don't attract any bids, even if they are cheap at the initial asking price. Other items sell for crazy high prices -- I saw a mid-70's Schwinn Sports Tourer sell for $550, and the bike was not in the greatest condition.

Mine is a 72 or 73, can't remember (too many bikes!) No, it has the 27" Weinmann clinchers that modern tires blow off of!

As far as ebay, what I've found is whatever sells for big bucks this week, next week or 2 they'll be a similar thing that goes for half, as the interest dies. Don't get into a bidding war unless it's truly one-of-a-kind, just like you're grandmother used to ride, or unless you admit to yourself you just have to have it no matter what. Then its worth it. I just paid too much for an old motorcycle on ebay, but what the hell. Typically, I don't even watch the auction, when I first see the item I throw out my price. Most the time I don't win, but that's exactly how I got the chrome Paramount.

Remember, 70s bike boom bikes with Nuovo Record were sold by the thousands and thousands, there are no doubt thousands of them in the backs of garages waiting to be discovered. 60s bikes much rarer, and 50s bikes rarer than that!

And you remind me of what my joke book says: "His mouth is in gear, but the brain is in neutral!"

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it. We already know your opinion quite well from previous posts, thank you.

Somehow, I knew you would see this and wouldn't be able to resist crawling out from under the bridge. Always nice to have a troll aboard.

How come Mr. Peugeot posts only on Paramount threads, never on Peugeot threads? Could it be he is ignorant on both topics?

No, he's just jealous because the Paramount doesn't have any compatibility problems with componentry!

I like Paramounts much better than I like Peugeots. Search if you want, but you will not find one negative comment posted by me anywhere here about Peugeots.

My point is that if you so strongly favor one manufacturer, don't piss off the rest of us by telling us how your brand is superior. That superiority is clearly an individual judgment call.

I realize that there are other bikes out there and many of them I have absolutely no experience with. So......I just keep my mouth shut and maybe I wil learn something.

You should try it sometime, Mr. Peugeot. What you are doing makes as much sense as those people who drive a Chevy with an anti-Ford sticker, or vice-versa. What's the point?

Whoa. These guys are harsh - I musta missed the original fireworks???

I'd like a '59, in purple with a white leather interior. Slammed, preferably, or not. I'll get rid of any unsightly wheelwell gaps as necessary. And I'll make it run on ethanol soon.

Read the thread about overrated Paramounts, not the 2 I started.

Here's the original thread started by Mr. Peugeot:

Houston, we have a credibility problem.

I wouldn't pick on American cars for a comparison, as France is known for both the 2CV and the Fuego. And just like French bikes with the incompatability issues, try finding new 'rubber bands' for your 2CV seats.

This Seville, no ...

This Seville, yes!

I saw a '57 at a car show once that had been somewhat customized and they had shaved the fins. I almost cried.

You have good taste, Bob.

The 80's Seville looks like a cockroach. It came with the doggy V8-6-4 or the scrap when new HT 4100 aluminum disaster.

Caddys in the fifties were works of art. Beautiful symbols of American optimism.

Oh, how I know that. I had one!

85 Caddy DeVille. Engine notwithstanding, a very nice car to drive. Couldn't trust that POS engine, though.
