Steve bauer
Hey there, newbie here who just picked up his first road bike. I found a really nice steve bauer bike (198?) and would like to know if some of you guys have info on this brand of bike. I paid 125$ CAN and the bike is mint. I tried googling it, searching the forums, but didn't find the info I was looking for. Here are a couple of specs:
Doing this by memory, so not sure about the exact names:
japanese made Cro-moly frame
Sakae CR crank
Shimano Lightaction derailleur
Shimano levers
Shimano brakes
Sakae handle bar
japanese made Cro-moly frame
I'll have to buy some new brake pads, tires and get things ajusted. Other than that, the bike rides great.
I'll try to get some pics soon and post them here.
thanks!

Steve Bauer was a professional Canadian cyclist who brought out his own line of bicycles in the mid-1980s. The company behind the brand was the Niagara Bicycle Corporation, which Steve had started with his partner, Bruce Smith. The bicycles were made primarily in Japanese, at least during the early years, bucking the trend towards cheap Taiwanese manufacture. The last I recall seeing the brand was in the early 1990s, by which time it was being sold in Canadian Tire stores.
A light action derailleur would put it in the 1987-1988 timeframe, when the brand was at its height of popularity. I believe that I know the model you have. It was a very popular, lower mid-range model. They came in a teal and an orangish-red, if it's the one I'm thinking of. Unfortunately, the name escapes me at the moment, though they were all named after winds.

Bauer Cruiser
I am restoring a womans Bauer 3 speed cruiser. I understand Bauers were built in Canada, however, this bike has labels in German. On the cross post is SPITZENKLASSE and another MARKERAD. Any idea what I have and what it might be worth?

First of all, the other posters here have already indicated the frames were made in Japan and not Canada. Maybe you didn't read carefully. Also, if you want info about your bike and it's value, you should post separately in the value forum - and pics are a must if you really want an answer. The thread you have tacked onto is very, very stale.
