Grandis? Anyone have any info.

I've searched the forums here and looked online and really can't find much info on this bike.
It was given to me from a guy who's parents used to own a bike store in Texas. Said he'd had it in his attic for years and it would probably fit me. (I'm 6'6") Well, it did fit me and I just paid him the cost of parts needed to get it rolling and it was mine. Just needed wheels, tires, chain and it was good to go.

I'm really just trying to get as much info on the manufacturer as I can. I know it's Italian, probably 20-30 years old but can anyone tell me any more about them? How can I figure out what year? What kind of components came on it? etc. Right now it's a good lookin blue with yellow accents and has a Campy crank and SunTour for everything else.

Any help would be great, thanks guys.

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...

we need some pictures, please. Grandis was one of the earlier, unh, grand marques from Italy - it has an extensive racing pedigree and no matter what the model it'll be a good rider - Classic Rendezvous archives will have a lot of Grandis information, as will the YellowJersey.com picture server...

Thanks for the info luker. I'd seen the pictures at Classic Rendezvous and that's all they have, just pictures of a couple of bikes. And Yellowjersey.com says it's under construction. I forgot to mention above that it is a 14 speed. Here are a couple of pictures that i have. They're not great but I can take some better ones if anyone wants to see more detail.

Thanks guys.

Grandis is based in Verona, the city with the very old arena and the opera performances in it. When sipping my cappucino (or was it a glass of Barolo?) in a streetside cafe, I saw many Grandis bikes passing, including commuter bikes with baskets! Chesini is the other Verona based bike maker, albeit very race oriented.

Check out classicrendezvous. I think they're made in Padova (Padua).

Give 'm a call and ask where they're located: Bici Grandis - Viale Venezia, 79 - 37131 VERONA tel. 045 525145

or check their website: https://www.cicligrandis.com/pag/FabbricaEn.asp

I rest my case! (googling is not so difficult: 'telaio grandis')

uh, sorry. Braincramp. I meant https://wooljersey.com/gallery. You kinda have to hunt around to find 'em, but they are there. That looks like the late '80s to me, based on the transition from super record to C-Record/Chorus stuff.

Awsome! Thanks for finding that for me. Oh and I'm a pretty good Googler myself but how would I know to search for "telaio grandis". I don't even know what telaio means. I searched for Grandis and many other words and couldn't find that site. Thanks again!

E pericoloso sporgersi! (it's dangerous to lean out: warning sign next to the windows in Italian trains! my Italian is so-so (by far not on the same level as the above quote from Mike552), but when searching for bike stuff, two words are handy: telaio=frame, and bici=bicycles. Anothre trick: set google preferences to italian websites only when you search for 'Grandis'.

I'll send CR a mail about the 'granchiolino'; whatever that is. Mille grazie!

I made an educated guess (avatar and comments) and assumed you spoke Italian.... granchiolino means mistake, or mishap... that sort of thing. Not slang, but not a basic word. I used it thinking you were a native. I figured since you went through all the trouble of finding the information, that you might want to update those guys at "CR" of their mistake. BTW, it's grazie mille, not mille grazie... I know it translates funny but that's the way you say it. I'm not 100% in Italian either, it took me a long time to become purely conversational... great language with the ladies though... cheers!

Presto is a Dutch name in racing bikes, from Amsterdam, with a lot of history. I have a '72 Presto, built by Jan Legrand, who was their framebuilder in those days. Jan Legrand later became team mechanic for TI-Raleigh, and built (most of) the frames for the team in the Raleigh facilities in England. Besides all that, the Presto is a very nice ride, exactly right for me. Presto!

Thanks for the help guys. I emailed them at www.cicligrandis.com and just got an email reply from E. Grandis himself.

Reply below:
Dear Todd,
about the decals, I'm sorry I can not help you: our policy doesn't allow any decals sending.
The original road-bike was manufactured in 1977. The original group was Campagnolo Super Record, anyway looking at the picture, I recognize only gear lever, seat tube, stem, handlebar and headpart as original.
Hope to be helpful,
kindly regards.
E. Grandis
