You can google up a picture of the same model without the bent fork, for comparison.

I see it. Looked like a fork that centered from the center of the blade in the CL shots - the photograph of the actual machine shows that the correct parallel section is the front edge of the blade.

Some may disagree, but a $400 Varsity?

To paraphrase an old Competitive Cycling article...."Eine Varsity? Bist du kidding mir Hans?"

Ridiculous price, but it is the later '80s lugged variant, if nothing else.

Iuhno... parts alone it might be worth the $400. Or maybe close enough to warrant buying the whole bike. I don't really see how it's such an outrageous price with it being complete, being cheaper than some new ones, and having ok parts.
My 2 cents, anyways.

Blue tape on a beige metallic bike. That's the biggest numbskull thing about it, lol. It's the same paint scheme as my 83 Le Tour, a nice combo in my book.,,,,,BD

I got the abusive and semi-literate response back. He rejects my value.

Edit (Update):
The original ad was flagged (not by me, I might add) and disappeared. Replacement ad is there now:
https://houston.craigslist.org/bik/891312978.html
Title: "$1,000 firm Folding Recumbent Bicycle"
Content in its entirety: "This IS a legitamite add ,quit flagging me I will NOT go down on the price!!! Recumbent bikes ARE better than uprights, stop arguing with me by flagging me you flamer,I know who you are!!!!"

Moral: If you want to sell something, tell people what it is you're selling. Show them a picture of it. Don't just post a price with no clue to what it is. Don't start arguing with your customers before you've even told them what you're selling.

Some people just expect a complete stranger to come over the their place with a grand in their pocket and look at something they've never seen and know little about. I guess the people who post these either have an insane amount of trust for strangers, or have some other ulterior motives ...
Or maybe their just idiots.

So we know it's broken, and no longer beneficial, I'm not too sure of anything else.

front disk break tire - $15 (s.l.c. (The U))

yep. pretty self explanatory. great treads. Need some extra cash and selling my no longer beneficial bike tire... (the rest of the bike was stolen) sad story i know.
So... if you need a tire let me know and we can arrange a time to meet.
thanks

Makes perfect sense..... It is a bit rusty, there's no name on the bike, I don't know what kind it is, but it's chrome and for jumping so $495.00 seems about right.....

Who knows, that bike might be worth every bit of a grand. But if it's worth that much to you, take 2 minues longer to put a picture in your ad, describe what it is you're selling, etc. Nobody would sell a car that way. "For sale: Car. $5,000. Absolutely non-negotiable, will not consider a penny less."

Right off hand, I can't think of ANY folding recumbents, didn't know there was such a thing. From the initial post and his email, I figured it might be an exercise bike rather than a bicycle. (I suspect a lot of people don't know what "recumbent" means, and assume it means "exercise" or "stationary" or something.)

I wonder on some of these ads if they're hesitant to describe it for fear the owner will recognize it, too.

This biek was once owned by a fat bald man, but then his head was too big for his helmut. He said the breaks were broken and the tyres were rubbed bare so he gave it to me.

He was a POZER anyway and I busted him by calling him out on it.
This looser didnt know what the biek was worth so i am pissing the savings on to you.
