Howdy

I want to replace the Huret Jubilee RD on my '73 Raleigh with a Campy Rally for some mountain climbin'. Recently, a shop owner told me the derailleur stops on the hanger are different for Huret, and the Campy won't work. Ive been riding and messing with bikes for years, and it has always been my experience that everything in the old days (70's) was pretty much interchangeable.
Unfortunately, I'm on the other side of the country from my bike, so I cant look at it right now.

Don't know if this helps but I have a Motobecane Grand Jubilee with Campy drop-outs and a Jubilee rear deraileur (duh).

BTW: if you are not going to need the Jubilee, sell it on Ebay. It's amazing the price that these things are pulling. Better yet, send it to me, I can always use a spare.

With a Jubilee as standard (assuming) it probably is a Raleigh Competition. Some of them had Huret dropouts, they were made in two configurations, Huret and "Campagnolo" compatable as were the Huret mechanisms.

Huret is actually a double stop, so fore and aft are limited. Campagnolo style is a single forward limiting stop.

So, a visual inspection is required.

I gather the stop might be slightly farther foward or rearward then what the Campagnolo stop would use, but that wouldn't prevent me from trying. As long as the derailer parallelogram angles foward roughly 20 degrees or more, it should work.

Don't be afraid to experiment. I had to file just a bit off of a Campag. 980 rear derailleur to make it hang at the proper angle on a dropout designed for a 1950s Gran Sport. Works like a champ ...

Yeah, it's a Raleigh Competition, my dad bought it new. I got the potentially bad info while I've been out here in California, and the bike's in sweet home Alabama, so I won't see it for a couple more months. No big deal if it won't fit, I'll just use a smaller crank.
One reason I like the old bikes is I could always use, for instance, Simplex DT shifters, Campy FD, Suntour RD, Regina FW, and mix and match as appropriate. Sure can't do that with modern components!

Huret made adaptors to fit their derailleurs to Campag dropouts.

That won't help him fit a Campy derailer to a Huret dropout.
