Campy Downtube Shifter Parts

HELP! I purchased a pair of shifters from someone online but they came incomplete. I need the following (one plastic washer and two metal washers/shift guards). Does anyone have any extras or point me to a place I can acquire some (without having to re-buy the entire shifters)!

Thanks!

Guy

Bikes: 1972 Columbia Tourist Expert III, Columbia Roadster

Hey guys, my three speed Columbia was stolen. It was my favorite bike. I'm looking for another one with reasonable shipping to savannah GA. Really any 3 speed will do, but a Columbia or Murray is prefered!

Thanks!

Does your crankset have a 144mm BCD? If so, I believe I have a spare ring that would work on the outer.

I have a set of DA 8 speed brifters at my place in AZ. I won't be back there until Nov 5 or so, but if you are interested, I'll give you first shot before eBay. I can't supply pictures until I get there, but no commitments are needed.

These are brifters that I had on loan to another member and he didn't use. As I recall they aren't perfect, but not bad, either.

I'd be interested in a 2nd shot if they don't fit your #1.

WTB - Campagnolo 27.0 seatpost

Looking for Campy 27.0 seatpost to complete my vintage build. Ideally looking for C Record, but would consider others. Have C Record 27.2 for possible trade.

Thanks in advance!

Remember, those 8s DA brifters will not index with anything except the old DA derailleur. No group mixing allowed.

They will index with 9sp DA

According to Sheldon Brown, they will index with the 9sp Dura Ace rear derailleur if you use the alternate cable routing. Shimano tech docs agree. I am currently running 8sp DA brifters with a 9sp DA rear derailleur with the alternate cable routing and it works perfectly. The 9sp derailleur seems to be a superior design as well.

I used Shim 600 brifters with a DA 7400 RD, and it worked fine on 8-sp.
I used DA 7400 8/9 sp bar ends with the same DA 7400 RD, and it wouldn't work on a 9-sp cassette.
I simply switched to an 8-sp cassette, and the combo works fine.

How would simply changing the RD make a difference to the shifters as far as 8 or 9 speeds?

Bikes: Old Schwinns and old Raleighs

Bump:

Looking for a 26 x 1 3/8 Raleigh Sports pattern rim (westrick style) with 36 holes. Chrome need not be perfect, but the rim should be in decent shape and look presentable.

Yes, it would work perfectly. Shimano Dura-Ace 8 speed utilised a smaller amout of cable pull to actuate the same amount of derailleur movement as other 8 speed systems. This amount of cable pull was pretty much the same as (or exactly the same) as the 9 speed system. This is why dura-ace 8/9 speed bar cons are marketed as 8/9 (unfortunatley many shops sell them as compatible with 8 speed which is completely untrue as they are only compatable with dura-ace 8s). So you would have no problem using the 8/9 speed bar-cons with an 8 speed cassette and 8 speed or 9 speed or even 10 speed dura-ace RD. You WILL have problems if you used other 8s derailleurs with the 8/9 bar-cons on an 8s cassette. It might work, but be really really REALLY finiky.

The fact that the brifters worked fine I cannot account for. The pull difference is minimal and it can and should be able to work, but the 600 brifters should technically pull a little more cable than the 8 speed dura-ace shifters, in any case it should have been a finiky set-up with sub-optimal shifting based on the specs of the respective systems. Of couse you everyone's experience will vary.

For pre-9 speed Dura-Ace the amount of cable pull was different from other Shimano indexed shifters and derailleurs. It was the one odd-ball of the Shimano lines.

The difference may be small enough that you were able to adjust it to where it worked for you, but it is basically like mixing incompatible shifting systems. It may work, but they are not designed to work together. Sheldon's site shows ways to overcome various differences by alternate cable routing, so the difference is small.

There was one model of DA RD that had slightly different geometry which isn't compatible with other Shimano 8s setups.
