identify/appraise this stronglite crank
I recently purchased an old motobecane grand tourer frame for $10 which had this stronglite crank on it. It is in very good condition. no wear on the rings. The numbers 9/16/20p appear on the back of the left crank arm, under the length which is 170.

Is this crank worth anything? If it's nothing special i'll just keep it and put it on a vintage build i will do someday.

Nothing super rare, but nothing to throw away, either. I'm sticking my unexpert-neck out a little, but I believe this is a 49D with some original Stronglight chainrings. The thing you usually see is these cranks paired up with TA chainrings, as they are interchangable and TA offers so many more sizes. If the 'rings really have pristine teeth (rare cause that FR alloy is so soft) then it might be collectable to somebody restoring an old FR bike. Treat them right (like use the CORRECT puller on them) and use them with whichever 'rings suit you, the TA rings can still be found new, but they will be getting more rare in the future as production just ceased.

Check out eBuy to see what they are worth. You would get your money back and probably then some. But I would keep it for that vintage build you were talking about.

i can't see the pic but sounds like a 49D for sure..
the numbers identify the pedal threads as english (the standard)
i just wanted to stress like unworthy mentioned that you must use the correct size extractor to pull them from the bottom bracket.. the thread diameter is 23.35mm, different from the standard 22mm and just large enough to be damaged by the 23mm TA puller..
so look around for the right one (if you're near nyc you can borrow mine)

That's the exact same crankset as on my '69 Clive Stuart.
And that bike has had some seriously hard miles since '69!
(I'll have to take some pictures of the ol' Clive. Y'all get a big kick out of this bike!)
Lets just say it's "Retro Blasphemy"!!!
OK, where's my camera???!?!

The paintjob got away from me!
I started with the pearl white, and was going to do a pinto color scheme. Kind of Holstein cowlike, but in grey & brown over the white.
But then some friends came over...and I was doing a multicolored neon scheme on another bike. So out came the stencils & airbrush! Everybody got a turn making "grafitti" on the poor ol' Clive. And then I yanked the brake & shift levers apart and painted those to match.
So 15 years later, I'm still thinking that someday I ought to re-repaint it!!
Someday...
Meanwhile, here are the "specs"!
Campy NR headset, brake calipers w/flat QRs, front derailleur & shift levers. Rally rear derailleur. Original Phil hubs from '71 laced to 27" MA40's w/DT spokes & Campy QR's. Also a Phil Wood BB with the Stronglight cranks. The saddle is a Cinelli and the seat QR is a Ringle. I had the stem custom made by Rock Lobster (and painted it in the Stars & Stripes theme.)
Less than Campy parts?? (ie; garbage!)
The seat pin...SR LaPrade
Brake levers...DiaCompe EB2's
Bars...?!?
pedals...whatever I had handy.
So...
Does the Clive win the Fugly bike award?!?
