Is that a Touring Series and Super Record on both sides of the Special Road Racer?

Good eyes Matt, good eyes!

In order from front to back:

Newest
Opus III
Design Series
Super Record
Special Road Racer
Touring Series V

Every time there's a new post to this thread, I hear a giant whooshing noise as Japanese bikes are bought off of Craigslist. The days of $50 Fuji's and others are over ...

1985 Team Fuji

I had a couple of 80's Japanese sport 12 speeds when I was a teen. A Takara and a Nikata. I gave the Nikata to my co-worker a couple of years ago...and miss it now.

Although it was a cheap sport bike, it was still "vintage" with a lugged steel frame...but i didn't know what I was doing at the time and have just recently been bitten by the vintage lightweight bug.

I found this 1985 Team Fuji on Craig's List about a month ago. 58cm C-T and all original except the tubes, tires, bars (and tape), stem and toe straps.

I replaced the original bars and stem with wider and longer versions respectively. The originals were black anodized instead of silver.

Looks great!

LesPaulPlayer,
What size was the black stem on your Team ? Would you be interested in parting with it ? I have a flamenco pink Team with black stem, bars, and headset. The stem is only 70mm . I'm looking for a 100mm or longer.
Sorry if this is out of line, I will post pics of this bike soon, as well as my '84 Team and '85 Del Rey.

Thanks! According to classicfuji.com, the chain is a Suntour Superbe! So it must be fast!

That Team is absolutely stunning! .... wow. I've never seen an '85 in that color scheme before .. but it does have the shifters on the top of the top tube instead of the side.

Thank you for the comments! The 1985 Team Fuji came in Victory Blue and Flamingo. 1985 appears to be the only year the Team Fuji had the shifters top-mounted. I don't really like the way they look, but they do work well for one-handed shifting of both derailleurs.

This bike is a blast to ride and has a much nicer ride quality than my 2008 Allez.

Odd, I thought I posted mine shortly after I got it. This is the only picture that I have of it(when I brought it home), but I hope to do some work on it as soon as I get some free time. I've since tracked down a few of the original components, but those will be changed out soon for a possible 3-speed conversion. (No harm will be done and the few original parts that I have will be retained.) Non-original parts such as the Dura Ace brakes will be either be going on the auction block or traded.

Now that I think about it, I may take this one on the TOMRV for one last long road ride before I get to work on it.

Matt, I knew you had one but I don't remember seeing photos of it. Must have missed it. Two sweet Teams in one day ..

Somewhere, can't remember where, I saw a photo of an '85 in the blue but it had the dark head tube panel (like the Flamingo) instead of the yellow.

ok, got to back to work.

I've never been able to get a good explanation from Howie Cohen on what exactly the main part of the American Eagle / Nishiki logo is.

Obviously there is an eagle's head... and it appears to be attached to some representation of a letter "M"... which is what I don't understand.

The small tricolor square is actually the Kawamura logo, which Cohen received permission to incorporate into his design for the AE logo. The red, yellow and blue -- respectively represent passion for the customer, passion for quality and passion for business sincerity.

It's strange; I took lots of pics of that old, rusty Nishiki, and I've taken a fair share of my 912...But the bike I've used the most, worked the hardest, and cleaned the least...My 310 has been out of the spotlight for much, much too long. I rectified that.

There it is, in all of it's hard won dirt and scratches. My beloved utility ride.

I posted a more extensive pic series on the Univega appreciation thread, but why not post this one pic again.

Univega Maxima Sport, circa 1983, all original parts (except the foam grips). 63cm of Japanese-built Mangalight goodness, complete with dork disc, turkey wings, and stem-mounted friction shifters.
