I am going to cross post this here because this is sort of vintage, and it was you all here in the Vintage Forums that inspired me to tackle this project.

This is my first complete do it all myself build from scratch. It started off as a 1992 Specialized Crossroads Trail frame with Tange 1 steel tubing and ended up as this.







I had frame, fork, and cranks sandblasted and powder coated. It is built up with a hodge podge of stuff I already had, ebay/craigslist finds, and few of our favorite internet retailers. It has New ultegra 8 speed bar end shifters, NOS Deore XT rear derailure, NOS Deore DX front derailure, 105 52/42/32 triple crankset, New Cane Creek SCR-5 brake levers, NOS Diacompe 986 cantilever brakes, Nitto Technomic Stem, Ritchey Logic Headset, Zoom Alloy Bars, Uno seatpost, Selle Italia Trans-Am Xo saddle, and depending on what I decide, either my ultegra/open pros, or Mavic CXP 11's with Coda Hubs.

Very nice! You did a great job. All I believe it needs are fenders and a set of custom decals from our buddy Mile at Velographics. Either chrome or some other contrasting color, but that's just me.

Nah, who needs decals on a nice clean build like this? (apologies to Mike at Velographics ...) It's one thing if you are going for an accurate historical restoration or a custom hot rod statement, in that case decal away. But this has a cool "mystery bike" look. The blue cranks are a great touch, they tell the story that this bike is handbuilt by someone who cares about it.

... and 25 years from now some poor sod will be posting on BF:

Perhaps, but twenty five years from now, that poor person will find this archived thread...and know that someone went to a lot of trouble with this bike.

So, will a Google search 25 years from now be voice activated? And will this future mystery person say; "vintage blue bike, blue cranks, catilievered brakes; find!" And boom, in 1.2 seconds there will be 28,361 hits with this Thread as the top hit. Just wondering?

I actually considered having a set of decals made up with the Italian translation of "Beater" but I could not find a good translation. But I kind of like that "mudernized" idea.

Anyway I know this was not a vintage rebuild but since this was definatly not a classic frame I decided to use whatever struck my fancy. I doubt there will ever be much of a marked for early an early 90's crossroad hybrid type frame. I definatly has an old school look and feel to it though.

If you put decals on it that say Specialized, the thief apeal will go up 10 fold. Just sayin.

It's supposed to be all about fun. We can see you had fun building this bike and will have fun riding it. A couple of cool custom decals to make people notice your bike even more, well that just ups the fun factor even higher!
