newbee question about Huffy

Ran across an old Huffy, three speed in the hub, needs tires, rear hand brake is froze, has a good looking Dorsey saddle, ladies, paint is dark green and looks ok, sticker says made by Huffman, asking 15.00 I almost bought it for the seat. What is an old Huffy worth?

Its worth about 15$, even could be pushing it depending on the condition.

A 3 speed hub alone is surely worth that $15. Just because it says "Huffy" on it doesn't mean it's worthless. Department store bikes of yesteryear were of much higher caliber than today's trash.

It's not a collectible but with a 3 speed, fenders, chainguard I could see paying up to $40

the hub is only worth $15 if you cut it out of the wheel, and sell it on ebay. In unrideable condition it's worth nothing. with the brake fixed and assuming it's working well it's worth $15-$25. with new tires and cleaned up and looking purty I'm thinking you'd be lucky yo get $50 for it on Craigslist.

Greenway,
Depends on the hub too. If the bike isn't too rusty I would drop the $15 on ASAP. What brand of hub? Some of the Huffy's had Sturmey-Archers on them, if it does that would give you a date on the bike too. It may be a Huffy but that doesn't make it a bad bike. In fact cleaned up it would make a good basic transportation bike, or neighborhood cruiser. You won't make anything if you are interested in trying to flip it.

Huffy bikes are built to last about 200 miles. Then something will go wrong that will make it unrideable. Save the hub and fenders, throw the frame away.

might not be an overseas Huffy...the OP already stated it has a Huffman sticker...should be good for many more than 200 miles

Funny, I just happen to have a Huffy Baypoint that was made in the USA in 1980 or so that has a documented 9,000 miles on it...hasn't failed yet

It's probably a 60s era Raleigh-built Huffy. I just rehabbed a Huffy Sportsman and sold for $125.

It it was labeled as a Huffman it was made before 1949. That's when the name Huffy was adopted.

For $15 you definatly should have picked it up.

Bikes: 87 RockHopper,2008 Specialized Globe. Both upgraded to 9 speeds. 2019 Giant Explore E+3

Huffy's were decent bikes back in the 50's. Not a Schwinn, but a good buy for the money.

Your mileage may vary, they say...
This has been my daily ride for the last year or so, courtesy of the LFBC. 21 speeds, fork like a tree limb; it's a bulletproof beastie. It fits me better than my '90 GT Tequesta; only problem is it's ten pounds overweight.

If the hub gears still function and you like the bike, I'd pay $15. I probably wouldn't touch it otherwise.

My wife has an old ladies-frame huffy bike from the late-60's/early-70's, and it has a 3-speed internally-geared coaster brake rear hub that was made by Shimano. Unlike the Sturmy-Archers, etc. that I am familiar with from when I had one as a kid, the Shimano shifter cable enters the hub from the left side. Hers still shifts and brakes great! Bike weighs a ton, though.
