Bikes: Nishiki Nut! International, Pro, Olympic 12, Sport mixte, and others too numerous to mention.

I think that bike needs some lovin' and a good bath!

Actually, according to the serial number it's a June of 1964 bike:

I concur with Bob. Any pre-1967 Varsity (downtube shifters, etc.) is a great find.

Funny thing is the headbadge is round I always thought they were the oval style if they were older. Did they do something weird in the 80's with the serial numbers for one year or so? Easthill I agree its really a mess but I just did a quick SOS routine on the rear fender and a couple of places in the rear rim and its really gonna clean up nice.

Chicago Schwinns were built like tanks. Practically indestructible. That's why they're still around. People are only beginning to realize their appeal. Maybe those of us hanging around the forum are sentimental about American-made bicycles.

I can't see the pic where you guys are seeing downtube shifters?? All I see are extreme closeups of some parts on a bike. Please post a full size pic of the bike from the right side?,,,,BD

The headbadge is correct for the bike. Schwinn used this badge on the derailleur equipped lightweights(except the Collegiate and Paramount) from at least 1962 through 1966. After the reorganization or whatever it was at the end of 1966 when the company changed names from Arnold, Schwinn & Co. to Schwinn Bicycle Company, the Varsity and Continental got the oval badge, but the Super Sport kept this badge for a while yet.

At least up to 1974, as my SS has a round badge. Not a button style like this one, but a lot of silver on it with a red center.,,,,BD
