Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

The width of the bottom bracket shell would help as well: 68mm for Japanese Bianchis, 70 for Italian.

For what it's worth, the serial number of my Bianchi wraps around the lug at the top of the seat tube.

yeah, the number on the seat tube seems to be the easier to identify one.

FWIW, my '83 Bianchi Nuovo Alloro is metallic black.

isn't 477-72-8478 a reasonable social security number? At least you can surmise that it was owned by a US citizen at some point.
