First year for Super Course 12 Speed?

Picked up a UK built Super Course 12 Speed. Serial number WD0004540. Would it be a 1980? It's speced out just like a 1978, Gold paint 531 butted main tubes and Suntour forged drop-outs. Same parts except for sidepull brakes and the extra cog. Never seen a UK built one of these, it looks more like the early-mid 80's Japanese one.

In the 1980 Raleigh catalog for the USA market, the Super Course pretty much matches those specs. Color is "copper," butted 531 main tubes, SunTour ends, Weinmann 500 sidepull brakes, SR crank, 6-speed freewheel, Weinmann 700c concave rims and SunTour hubs, SunTour VX mechs and bar-end shifters.

I have a 1980 Super Course 12 in very near original condition. I have never been able to locate the 1980 Raleigh Catalog. Where did you find you'd?

Thanks.....I did actually locate that catalog and the copyright is 1980. The Head Badge web sign shows that catalog as a 1981. I have even heard some talk that Raleigh never made a specific 1980 catalog. I believe that was about the time it was relocating it factory to Tiawan. Many thanks again for replying.

Based on specs it is a from 79-82 a pic of the head badge, Full bike and is the VX SR stuff Raliagh branded or strait Suntour branded.. In any case a very nice bike great vintage frame with some very nice components should work nicely as basic rider or a entry level collector's bike.

Yes, we would love it if you scanned the entire catalog and posted a link to it.

The link posted by nlerner is the identical catalog. Hadn't looked at it when I posted about my catalog. My catalog is not for sale. It belongs with my bike. Replaced the gumwall tires with Bontrager tires. Replaced brake pads with some cheap Flying Wheels stuff because they look identical to original pads. Have new brake hoods and wrap, but not installed yet. Cleaning chain, derailleur, and rings next, trying to get them to move smoothly.

Pictures to come after I get my 10 posts.

I also have a paper copy of that catalog (note on the last page it’s copyright 1980), but the one I link to above is the same one.

I'll get to 10 yet

Surprising so many of us held on to them. Shows how we valued the bike from the beginning.

Any ideas on how to clean up the painted finish without damaging decals?
