What model Peugeot is this?

I've seen these around so I figure a Peugeot-phile could identify it without much description. HLE with Carb fork. I am thinking it's not top but maybe a middle model? - sorry for the poor image quality..

Thanks

I am not quite an expert but have been doing some research over the last few weeks into what model my 70s Peugeot is. I can therefore tell you this much---from the paint scheme and brakes this looks to be an early to mid eighties model, which you can confirm yourself by looking at the serial number on the BB. 7 digits means 1970s, 8 digits means it's 1980s. Peugeot seems to simply have used whatever stickers were lying around though, and their method of naming models is based on French logic. Have a look at the following site to help you get a bit closer to your answer. Pay attention to lugs, paint scheme, brakes and frame material as well as the colours-different models had different colour schemes.

Based on the decals and HLE it is an entry level model circa 1985-1987. However, the down tube mounted shifters indicate an upper entry level model like PH10LE Tourmalet. A good drive side pic showing the derailleurs and cranks would help. There may also be a paper sticker under the bottom bracket shell that indicates the model number, frame size and serial number.

Looks like an '85 or '86 PH10LE. As T-mar said, drivetrain pics please.

Most Peugeots I have from that era have the paper tag on the left chain stay about an inch or so from the bottom bracket, and easily readable. I'm willing to put money on a PH10LE. Mine has the same HLE frame/Carbolite fork combo. I have an Avoriaz that is close with HLE and forged drops, but it has stem shifters and no fork decals. Either way it should be rather light and ride like only a Peugeot can. NICE find in my book! Convert it to aero brake levers and put on some kool stop brake shoes.,,,,BD

I'm jealous actually. The only pearl white 80's Peugeots I have are entry level or just above. The rest are Burgundy or black.

I didn't know the paper sticker was the model etc - seemed like a small college bike registration sticker to me. The bike has been sitting in a garage for a decade +/-. I would have provided DT pics but I posted at night and used what was available... Ders are Sachs Huret, 12 speed... The front der has rust/pit issues... chain is rust shot too, cranks seems to be covered in a persistent dust...

Model according to the sticker is a PHLE1057...

Where did these fall in the early 80's Peugeot line?

Thanks again

The sticker indicates it is a PH10LE with a 57cm frame. I don't know why it says PHLE10 rather than PH10LE, other than a possible typo. In 1986 it was 7th out of 10 models. If it's a 1985 model, I don't have the complete lineup, but Jim probably does. However, I do know that it cost $269 US in 1985.

One way that I believe you can tell the difference bewtrween a 1985 and 1986 is via the number of water bottle mounts. 1985 had one, while 1986 had two. Jim can you confirm this?

only one bottle mount - there's a number on the paper sticker (which is on the left chain stay behind the BB) above the PHLE1057 that is 7 digits long - not 8 - however the paint is definitely '80s...

My label says PHLE10 as well. I don't imagine it was a typo, unless ours were made the same day, by the same typist, hehe. And for the record, I believe I own 7 as of right now.,,,,BD

My PH10LE. Love this bike! It has changed again since the pic. It now has half grips half wrap, aero levers, and a dark brown suede seat.

I'll check a bunch of things when I get home from work. The serial number on the paer sticker is a partial number. Check for a number stamped into the BB shell.

What are the numbers?

Jim

serial # is B 503 61205

While the pearl is nice - I am not much into Peugeots (though I did just learn a lot investigating this one) - really I'm not much into French bikes. So I think I am going to post this one on craigslist to help fund my new daily rider hunt...

$200 sound fair - cheap - expensive?

I wouldn't pay $50 for it and I love French bikes. It's low end and too new to be considered vintage. That doesn't mean that you won't be able to get $200 for it, though. The Peugeot name alone is worth a lot to some people.

Must be one of those Special Edition left side drive models.

Anyway, nice bike.

You are better off starting a new thread, rather than resuscitate a 2 year old thread.

Lots of Peugeot experts out there that can help I am sure.
