Need Help Removing House Paint

I picked up a 1995 Giant Iguana mountain bike in great condition at a yard sale. One problem, the previous owner splashed some paint on the frame (see pic). Usually, I would not try to fix something like this if I'm flipping a bike. But the paint on this frame is exceptional and I'm not sure I want to flip this one because it's in beautiful condition. I tried isopropyl alcohol to soften it. A little of the paint came off, so did the shine on the factory paint so I'm guessing I'm taking off a little of each. I have no idea if its alkyde or latex. Has anyone had any success removing house paint from frames? If so, please let me know what you used.
Thanks,

If its latex try using a lot of hot water and rub it with a sponge fairly agressively or try to get under it with a blade and not touch the factory paint and if its oil base try mineral spirits to take it off. these may or may not work.

Try lacquer thinner, after testing in an inconspicuous spot. Should take of the house paint and leave the bike paint alone.

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG

IIRC the Giant frames have a clearcoat on them. Try a bit of Goof Off in an inconspicuous place. It is what I used to remove unwanted house paint and some silver over spray from my Raleigh Superbe.

I second the Goof Off. That's what it's for.

Hey thanks Aaron and Dirtdrop, I should have thought of that. I tried Mineral Spirits with no affect at all. Since Isonol had some affect removing a small amount of the paint, I think the paint is Latex based. Goof off should work. And thanks for the comment about the clearcoat, I was not aware of that. I'll try it tomorrow and repost to let everyone know.

roccobike,
I have a ~'90 Iguana. I know it has clear coat because it had a couple of bad scratches and I used the wrong thing to clean with and it wrinkled up in that area. Mine is red with yellow cables, yellow graphics and now yellow fenders It is being reincarnated as an Expedition bike.

Second the hot water idea. Goof off is solvent based and will not do the clearcoat any favors, esp. if alcohol dulls it. I agree if the alcohol is cleaning it up that it is likely latex paint.

Hot water, hot as you can stand it, a squirt of dish soap, and a few capfuls of vinegar cleans up latex paint.

Latex paint is waterproof after it dries. It takes a solvent to remove it. Goof off won't hurt your clearcoat. Even lacquer thinner won't hurt automotive-type clearcoat.
