Please Help Identify A Bontrager

Is there anyone out there that can help me identify the year of this Bontrager Privateer. I purchased it back in 2002 from a friend. He rode it like three times then put it in storage. I took it off his hands and used it as a commuter (the bike has only seen dirt like twice). I recently added the Rock Shox Quad 21 and the Kore stem with the high rise bar to try to sell it. I also added the deore cranks, however everthing else is original (except the tires). I do have the original tires as well as the original fork, stem and bars. The only original item I don't have is the cranks.

There are several numbers on the bottom bracket and here they are: B 005656 stamped in big numbers/
3850 4 stamped in little numbers / and BS 6102:1 on a sticker

Can anyone tell me about this bike?

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...

nothing wrong with your mods, although the main thing that the buyers will be interested in (including me) is the frame...do you have any idea what year you are talking about? The earlier privateers are worth more than later, and I don't have the key to the serial number...

I'm pretty sure it's a 1996 or 1997. The guy I bought it from told me it was a 1997, however I've found some archived catalogs online, and the specs seem to better match a 1996.
