I expect you will give me back all the bits you took off (it was an 86, and I'd prefer to not have any of that new fangled STI crap), or pay me the market value (ebay prices are always fair, right?). Or you could just give me the bike as is... I don't want to be a dick about it. :thumb: (jk) |

Saved this from the trash on the way to work the other day. It's a 1995 ProFlex 555. Now if I can just find a replacement rear shock I'll be set.
(hint - probably can't find a rear shock :thumb:) |

Unfortunately, mine was missing the fenders, and the seat was toast. Mine was dated 1963, but it had a Sears trick fligger shifter. Yours looks like it has a twist grip shifter. I fixed it up, and I think it rides very nicely. |
Oooooooo nice :thumb:

I found this Nishiki International in a crippled heap on a street corner two blocks from my house. Along with it, I found a Shimano 3-speed wheel...looks like someone was trying to make the two work together and gave up. For the price, the Suntour barend shifters and cranks are worth it, plus, I can save the Avocet touring saddle :) Frame is cro-mo and it appears to be in great structural shape. It's being propped up by a 26" mtn wheel in the photo.
She's a 63cm...10cm too large for me. I think I'll fix it up and sell it as either geared or a single speed...whatever is cheaper for me. Unless someone wants to trade... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...s/IMG_6049.jpg |
This was found in Maine in the trash collection. It's a 72 Schwinn Manta Ray with a Disk Brake and it's got the original tires still in great shape.

I'll give you three guesses as to why that frame was thrown away in the first place.

2 Weeks ago , i helped a good friend of mine move into her new appartment. The previous owners left a big pile of useless junk in the middle of the garage ( not cool ) , but sitting in the corner of the garage was this bike ( cool ) that my friend was going to throw away...i wasn't going to let that happen!
I have no idea what Brand / Model it is , so if anyone can identify this bike , it would be really appreciated. I don't really care if it's worth something , i just want to build myself a nice cruiser. http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/3...0071bp1cx3.jpg http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/3...0072vu9tr0.jpg It was originally Green , then painted blue all over , even the rims. Serial on the frame: R71366685 Thanks , Frank |
Don't know what it is but that rust in the second pic looks plenty ugly.

It's mostly surface rust , but deeper in some small spots...It looks uglier than it is. Anyways , I Sandblasted the frame already , so i could see how ''bad '' it was.

I found this English 3 Speed behind my uncle's cottage. It sat out in the open on its handlebars and Brooks Saddle for 20 years of MIchigan winters. He said I could have it and told me that it was made in England upon further inspection I found that it said Royal Scot, made in England on the Head badge; it also has Made in England painted onto to top tube. I broke the chain off with a Pipe Wrench so that I could mount the rear wheel. I then towed it home to my place in Michigan, a few blocks away, Now it is sitting indoors.
It is sitting here in SOuthwestern Michigan right now, I plan to bring it back to Chicago later this week. If anyone wants it, PM me, otherwise it is going to the local Bike Coop. http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMGP2628.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMGP2627.jpg It still has the front fender. http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMGP2625.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...r/IMGP2626.jpg I don't think this bike was very far from the dump. |
ooh that's rough, cool, but rough...

I spent about 15 hours detailing the bike :) which including polishing the chrome up. I have no idea how the bike was so rustfree being there in Maine. |

It was trash day in my neighborhood this week. Maybe it's a sign of the economic times, but I didn't see a single bike at the curb. Usually there are a few destroyed kids' bikes or thrashed Xmart bikes, old wheels, etc.
Man, the scavengers were circling like crazy. There was at least one every 15 minutes minute, picking up any scrap metal they could find. I haven't seen a decent yard sale or thrift store bike in 6 months, either. As soon as gas hit $4.50/gallon earlier this year, any good quality bike disappeared from craigslist within, and the thrift stores started selling Xmart bikes at about the same price as new ones. What I have seen on craigslist, though, is people trying to sell nearly new comfort bikes for 80-90% of new price. I guess they tried commuting & decided gas wasn't expensive enough yet. |
I'm seeing bikes on the steel scavengers trucks. I was told that even goodwill is accepting all metal items because they are scrapping them out.
|
I was just mentioning that over at the Schwinn forums, bikes are just metal to the scrap hordes....

Just five minutes ago, I saved a yellow Schwinn Varsity from the neighbor's curb from a few streets away. The neighbor said I could just have it. I wasn't sure if it was part of a yard sale, or what. Glad I asked. So, now I'm the proud owner of this tank. I couldn't wait to tell you guys about it. It's got the oval headbadge, the gigantic steel chainring guard, steel wheels, and the huge stem shifters. I'm sure it's gotta weigh 40 pounds.
I'll get pictures up as soon as I clean it up. Doesn't need much, just a wash and lube. One tiny problem -- and I do mean tiny. It looks like it has 24 inch wheels instead of 27 inchers, the frame is tiny, too. I don't know if it can be made to fit me by raising the seat and raising the stem or not. We'll see. |

don't know what year. was getting RID of trash, saw a handlebar sticking out. pulled handle bar out and this was attatched to them, minus wheels, basket, rear rack, lights and speedometer. two days later it was my commuter for for work. just want to find some street tires for it. would like original size rims too. right now it has mountain bike rims with old but usable street tires.

Pictures of my bent fork here: http://www.coronarose.com/downloads/hercules/fork/ My fork is for a 27" in wheel. 1" tube with the funky "Nottingham" 26 thread per inch. Steerer tube on the fork is 8" long from the crown to the end. Also, the "keyhole" dropouts are a giveaway. The head tube on my bike frame is 6-5/8 in long, not including the headset cups - you can use that to measure also. Please please tell me you have your bike still. I'd be thrilled to buy the fork, headset, brakes, and possibly the seatpost (25.4mm?). Please call me! David Alvarado 951-316-4469 or email david@coronarose.com. Thanks!!!!! |
