Early Falcon questions?
There are a couple of things that don't seem right with my Falcon, just need someone to tell me they're correct. First is the headbadge. It looks original and all, with the Olympic rings, and the Falcon etc. However it is pop riveted on? Should it have screws, seems more period correct to me?
Second is that "decals" are actually a vinyl wrap on all three main tubes. The chain stay ones look like waterslides, due to flaking and scratches being able to remove them. They seem about the age of the bike,
but this is before most bikes were vinyl. Were they just ahead of their time?

My Falcon (San Remo) has the vinyl wrap decals that you're talking about as well as a riveted head badge. My chain stay decals are almost totally gone and they are almost definitely waterslides. I guess the only answer is that Falcon was pretty awesome back then!

Man I am glad you asked that question about the head badge. I had the same question about my Falcon. I was concerned that the head badge had been removed for repaint and put back on with pop rivets. Here is a picture of my head badge:

My 1960 Capo's head badge was affixed with aluminum non-pop rivets, a very common practice back in those days. In contrast, my 1962 Bianchi's head badge was screwed on.

Bikes: 62 Falcon, 58 Raleigh Lenton Gran Prix, 74 Raleigh Pro, 75 Raleigh Int, 75 Raleigh Comp, 76 Colnago Super, 75 Crescent, 80 Peugeot PX10, plus others too numerous to mention!
My 62 Falcon had rivets with little round heads. Eventually the top one "popped out" so I removed the bottom one with pliers and put the headbadge in one of my drawers at home. Then, off to college, off to marriage, and the whereabouts of the badge became unknown. This distressed me more when I had the bike restored in 1996 by CycleArt. The new used replacement badge was $40! Now it has screws.

I've had a number of Falcons including two that were bought new in the seventies and they all had riveted headbadges and vinyl top tube and down tube panels. In the eighties you could still write to Falcon and get replacement panels in white and red.

This page says they are on holiday;

I will be checking with them for my 1971.

I also like how their History page doesn't even mention the Falcon name until 1978, and then 1982 when it merged with the company they are now. What happened to Falcon before 1978?? I guess it doesn't matter really. It's a tiny bit like Pacific trying to pretend they're still Schwinn of old, lol.,,,,BD
I think I would rather have a bike called Falcon than Elswick Hopper anyway.
I don't blame them.
