Magic moment on my morning ride

I don't really like cycle specific clothing, especially not lycra below the waist. I have cycling underwear, with the chamois pad, and normally wear that under cargo shorts, for longer rides. Since the winter set in, however, I really wanted something to keep my legs warm, so when one of our local supermarkets had an offer on cycling gear, and I went in for long sleeved jerseys, I stumped up for a pair of winter tights at the same time. I pretty much only wear them on freezing cold mornings when I'm riding before dawn, but they work well.

This morning, I rode an 18 mile loop, towards the end of which I have to cross a 4 lane road. At that particular time in the morning, it's pretty busy, so I had to wait a long time for a gap. When the gap came, I jumped on the cranks to race across, and as I rose up, the waistband of my tights caught on the horn of my saddle, resulting in me riding across 4 lanes of very busy road bare-assed. Liberating!

I could not get past this statement. You want us to feel sorry for your chilly, breezy plight, when you live in a land that sells cycling stuff at the supermarket? I would gladly walk naked across town if I thought the retail gods would reward me with cycling stuff for sale at such a store.

Hey, there's stopping traffic and then there's "stopping traffic".

Many have written about the moon and its magical properties. I wonder if this was picked up on Google earth?

I don't want you to feel sorry for it at all - I thought it was hilarious! But hell yes, the advent of continental European low cost supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl has been a boon for me. I've had a complete bike tool kit which was retailing online for around £50, at £15. I've had briefcase panniers for £5, throwover 3 part panniers for £5, long sleeved jerseys for £6, tights for £10, underwear (with pad) for £2, winter gloves for £2, wedge bags with an inexpensive multi tool, a chain tool, tyre levers etc for £2:50, a heart rate monitor for £10 - it's fan-bleeding-tastic. They have offers of the week, changing on a Monday and a Thursday, and the trick is to keep an eye open online, because about twice a year, it's bike things. Twice a year times 2 stores, you do rather well......

That's so nifty! About the best we can get at our local supermarket in the way of sporting goods is maybe a frisbee, and some plastic picnic ware with the logo of a football team on it.

I only hope that you get something rewarding out of this by sharing it with your significant other... the only person in the world likely to have a positive feeling over this besides laughter (and likely some of that as well).

Thanks for having the courage to share your magic moment with the rest of us. It has brightened my day!

Everyone I've told has found it very funny, and I've told just about everyone. It's nice to give people a reason to smile!

Yeah, right! You just found a clever way of telling the drivers what you thought of them.

Bikes: Seriously downsizing.

I feel for you Sam!
I often catch the rear edge of the chamois on the front lip of the saddle, but I've never had the 'lunar exposure' occur.

Oh you are right!

And no, we don't want Sammy getting banned, even though it's a relatively innocuous photo... .

I will add my two pennies worth by saying that I have never had such a thing happen to me, although I've read a lot of accounts about it happening, both to men AND women. I remember one account of a poor woman who both mooned the street AND did the slow-mo clipped in fall .

Yup, I was just joking back at you. But I am still jealous that you have some choice about where to buy bike stuff. For me it is either the expensive specialty store or on-line. j
