Trade the RD for a Campy, and you'll be fairly good, even if the rear wheel/cassette is Shimano.
If you use the pre-2001 Campy rear derailleur you can run a 7-speed Shimano cassette. I've cheated by inserting an 8th cog to make it so I don't have any missing steps on the brifter. Works like a charm. See this link for more information:

Like others have said.. apply it with a lubricant.. my choice would be Liquid Wrench or Pb Blaster ... a penetrating oil .. and make sure you click through it after spraying and then respray again... worked for me on some non-shifting STis

Shimergo! '89 Panasonic done with upgrades for now.(I'd like to change headset merely for cosmetic reasons)

It's gonna take me a few miles to get used to this crazy hands-on-bars shifting, but so far I like it. Prior to this I've always shifted front and rear with my right hand. My left is not used to doing anything other than braking.

Wish I could figure out how to post full sized pics.

Most of us use outside file servers with the [img] code to insert them. I love the paint job on your bike btw!

Thanks, the paint has a fair number of nicks and scratches, but photographs really well!
I've attempted the outside server thing, and was baffled. I can turn a block of stone into some amazing things with a hammer and chisel, (www.architravestonecarving.com ) but computers are confounding. I'll be asking my 3 year old for help soon!

Wheels mfg makes spacers to replace a shimano 8 cassette to c8. They work very well.

Thanks. I have no idea about the cages. They're stainless, and I got 'em at Angry Catfish.

The sure look like it to me. Most of the knock offs have the loop that the bottle sits on at the end of the loop away from the bolts rather than next to them (probably due to design intellectual property issues).

Just checked bike. Yep, King cages. Thought briefly of the titanium, but they'd be out of place on this build.

Yep, $60, which is probably more than the RD. I was thinking in shorthand... I sent my spacing kit to the lady in Brooklyn (whatwolf)... I believe it's on her Merckx, not sure.....

They're to mate a Shimano 8/9/10 rear hub to a Campy drivetrain. I think the OP was trying to make a Campy shifter work with a Shimano RD....

anixi seems to have found a solution, but I'd still just get the RD to match the shifters and call it a day.

It worked fine this morning. The Shimano 7-speed cassette + one more cog is a pretty killer way to salvage your old 8-speed Campy Record brifters. The ones I use have already been rebuilt, so even better...I'll post a picture as soon as I can get those stinking Ksyrium Equipes working well, they're such a pain in the gluteus.

Wow, I didn't realize they were so much. I got mine second hand for much less.

I know they are to mate the shimano hub to campy. I ment it as support to your statement to get a campy RD. The s7+1 = c8 sounds like a great alternative.

Modolo Morphos brifters? Never heard of them.

edit: they're not so great, finicky set up and short lived reliability...
