Super awesome! Are those Soma HWY 1 bars?

Not sure. I know the stem is cinelli but no marking present. It is comfy and matches the nitro post and cinelli stem nicely.

WOW TickDoc That Ciocc is so awesome! I love that color and fade. Could easily be my favorite bike. If you ever decide to sell it :) let me know.

You have dibs, although you may have to contact my widow to start the process ;-)

Thanks, those are FIR Aria, Italian company selling both rims and I think also complete wheels. The frontwheel has a FIR hub as well and both have FIR quick releases. Only the rearwheel has a Ultegra 6500 hub, so maybe the wheels were originaly for Campy or only sold for Campy. Don't know who made the spokes, but they're sharp aerospokes. Personaly, the Campy Shamals are my favourite wheels but expensive and only for Campy of course. This was a very nice alternative, and with 75 euro's (they aren't mint though) a great deal as well.

Although the look is not as classic as a ' 92 Chorus gruppo, I love the 11 speed Chorus gruppo I just put on my '92 Merckx Century. Purists might scoff, but this is my only bike, so it gets used a lot and the upgrade makes it a joy to ride. After test riding a Dogma I came to the conclusion I like the way my Century rides better. 105 miles and 9400' last weekend were a great shakedown cruise!

There. Don't apologize, or it'll be harder to hate you for having such a kick-ass bike.. .... Really, if you're going to go 11-sp Chorii, may as well do it on a great one.....

Yay another Tourney brethren! LoL. Seriously though, it looks pretty dang slick like that. Did you ride it a lot with DT's and was the adjustment hard for your riding if so?

Rocket-Sauce 06-09-15 10:38 AM

It is actually not mine. I just modernized it for a friend. Those tourney brifters are slick! My only nit to pick is that the thumb shifter is not easily reachable from the drops. They seem to be designed to only be used riding on the hoods.

Simple to set up, and they dramatically upgrade the bike. And affordable! What's not to love?

RaleighSport 06-09-15 10:47 AM

Yup, awesome component for sidegrading a 7 speed drivetrain without a complete overhaul. I've got mine paired to an earlier Tri color group since I don't like using RSX for it.

This was yesterday's re-do of one that's already on this thread somewhere. A few adjustments, new gum hoods & race wheels to do a local crit race...so it got some exercise too!

Great execution. But why the caliper placed behind the fork? Is that the new fab?

IMHO, there are 3 legitimate ways to build up a classic frame. Of course you can put an all period-correct Groupo (typically Campy or Dura Ace) on it, or you can put some current group on it and take an old frame into the 21st century.

But what I favor for a bike you plan to ride often, is rather than worry about what people want to see, is to build a bike that is EXACTLY the way YOU want to ride it. And then do exactly that, without worrying about what purists expect to see. I only care what purists say if they're buying my bike for more cash money than I paid for it.

fiataccompli 06-11-15 09:29 AM

Unfortunately (perhaps) I found that my preference has sharply edged towards the modern "compact" bend, so I am expecting soon to 86 the Cinellis in favor of some less cool-lineaged Somas or something of the like. The crit was all in the drops-which is as intended I would assume, but I missed the flat ramps (?) of my other bikes when I wanted another hand position.

Thanks.
Funky design, for when you "convert" a bike for tri's.
That model only fits that way, needs the distance from the bolt hole to the tire.

Uniquity, I guess.

My Ron Cooper with Ultegra 8 speed, 8 speed dt shifters, aero wheels.

Maintains a classic look with modern bits and everything up top is still vintage.

So where do the 20" wheels go, 65er?

Wraith.

Again, I say, Wraith.

You will regret it, not.

Love it all but the seat....that bike is nice. Don't get me wrong, but a slicker butt hatchet would make it look even faster!

fiataccompli 06-12-15 10:16 AM

Yeah, I was actually test riding this pro (or something) Brooks. it was able to average 25+ with the Brooks, which was fairly fast. Seriously, I have one type of saddle I use on most my bikes and I thought about putting it on this one the other day, but I kinda dig the Brooks. And, come to think of it, for racing purposes I think I would rather look slow, if that makes any sense.
