Campagnolo Syncro shifters: yeah or nay?

learn from the master of syncro:
https://www.tearsforgears.com/2007/05...of-syncro.html
Syncro I: had little extra lever to shift between friction and indexed
Syncro II: had knurled thingy to switch between friction and indexed
1991: I think the I and II designation was done away with, and we see 8 speed syncro with flat lever and bigger barrel (i.e. no converting syncro I and II to 8 speed), lever is still flat, can still go to friction mode. These must be rare as they only saw one year of production.
1992: curved levers, no more friction mode, little barrel adjuster... still referred to as syncro but unlike syncro I or II.
1995: 3rd spring added.
2001: discontinued
this is how I see it.

hmmm. having learned from the master, it is apparent to me that I do not have any +95 shifters. I'm gonna go on the hunt to see if my 10 speed insert will work with them...

Campy syncro 1 shifters w/ Shimano arabesque rear derailleur
I have recently acquired some Campy syncro 1 DT shifters (without small lever to switch between friction and indexed). Will the indexed shifting work with a Shimano arabesque 600 rear derailleur? Will it work better if I change them to friction?
The arabesque shifters could not hold the front derailleur tension because they did not match the shifter bosses on my frame.

The Syncro 1 shifters on my Montello works most of the time, but I just don't get why I should do a slight overshift over each index point with the lever to get to the next gear (Some had confirmed that this is "normal" with the Syncro1 shiftersand there is definitely a bit of friction throw past each index, so it seems to be designed designed into the system. ). Kinda defeats the whole purpose of indexing, IMO.......So,.... I'm considering replacing the Sycro 1 levers to Campy's Doppler shifters I acquired not too long ago.....
After many years of Simplex Reftrofiction satisfaction on many of my bikes, I expect I will enjoy riding and shifting my Pinarello much more with the Dopplers, instead of the Syncro 1s....
The Syncro 2 shifters on my Bottecchia seem to be even worse.....If the new insert I got for it will not improve things, I might just give up on Campy Syncros all together.....
I'm thinking that frankly, if the early Syncros did not have the Campy name on it, most of us would not really bother with them, considering the poor performance most get from them.....

Syncro could work OK when correctly set up. If you have to over-shift something is wrong. Should just click in, or rather clank/clunk in. Could be a bent hanger, or wrong chain, or some incompatibility somewhere. I forget the ins and outs of it, different inserts and what not. It's been decades since I worked on them. Honestly, I never really liked Syncro that much, which was a common opinion among LBS wrenchers at the time. For 7 speed friction works just as well or better.
Ralds - it won't work with a 600 arabesque RD. Those were meant for friction only. There may be a way to hack it, but you're on your own there.

Quoth Sheldon Brown: "Synchro derailers and shift levers are incompatible with anything else, and the Synchro system worked so poorly that it is not a good idea to try to set the system up on a bike you intend to actually ride." *
Agree? Disagree? If agreed, is the Syncro II version any better? And is there a way to identify the revised version, if there is any real difference in performance?
I'm considering a set of the 8 speed Syncros for a build, using a 7 speed Shimano cassette (because apparently, Campagnolo 8 and Shimano 7 have the same cog spacing).
EDIT: They would be mated to what I believe is an 8 speed "Racing T" rear dérailleur. Not sure if this dérailleur is pre-ergo or not.
