I'm going to move this to the Classic&Vintage forum, iab is correct you'll get a better
more accurate response over there.
btw welcome to the forums, I'm sure once this is moved
EastHill (our resident picture collector
) will ask for detailed photos
(which will help ID your merckx) also see this thread:

also about vintage Merckx bike

whoah! That's one of those in-famous Merckx "dismemberment frames". They've been known to randomly explode into shards of white hot shrapnel, causing grievous wounds all within a 10m radius. It's actually illegal to ride one of those in states west of the Mississippi.
If you'd like to rid yourself of that abomination, please package it carefully and send it to me. I have a friend who is a registered hazardous frame disposal technician who would be thrilled to wipe that thing from the face of the earth.

Must really suck to be Kristinb.
Easthill, it's too big for you, I think I could stretch over it, though.
Kristinb, if you want to get rid of it and get a real tri-bike, please PM me.
Even though there's not a speck of chrome on it, I may be able to accept it into the fold

You and moki are princes among fellows for volunteering to take the Merckx off Kristin's hands

Chrome forks and chain stays are alway a plus. I'm not sure they came on true Merckx race frames.
Give them time, they may have more pressing matters at hand.

My 7-Eleven Team Issue is like hers: no chrome & has a number hanger. I'd be interested to know if there's a rider name on the non-drive side of the top tube, in the same position as the 7-Eleven Team decal.
When I emailed the Merckx factory, I sent the email on 01/02/2008, and received a response on 01/07/2008.
Also keep in mind they're in Belgium, so the time zones will affect when they receive the email and respond.
