Miyata 914

I found a Miyata 914 on CL, seller is asking $175 for it. Looking through old Miyata catalogs, it looks like a 1990. The seller says that it is full Shimano 105. Is $175 a good price?

The 1990 model used RX100. Are you sure it's not a 1989? The frames were similar looking, with only minor differences in the accent decals. Original price was in the $700-$750 US range.

Maybe. The seller says 105. I am waiting for some more pictures from him (I don't live really that close to the bike) so I'll update you guys as more info comes my way.

EDIT: I guess it is an '89 then. I was looking at an '88 and the frame color was slightly different.

It depends on the frame.....

At a certain point Miyata used internal cable routing for the rear brake cable.

If it has internal routing with an un-reinforced frame i'd be very leary of it.
If it has internal routing with a reinforced frame I'd strongly consider it.

What do you mean by reinforced/unreinforced? And where would I find this information? I am pretty sure it's definitely a 1989 model.

I have a 914. It's a '90 or '91 and it is all Shimano 600.

hopefully this isnt too late.

Re-inforced holes have a 'gusset' or extra piece of metal brazed around the cable hole.

i too had one. it was a 1988, all 105. it had a plastic or rubberized piece that fit in the cable hole. the fellow that has it now informed me that it was cracked around the hole but also mentioned it was easy enough to fix although he didn't mention how. likely a braze or drill a small hole at the end of the crack. i assume it wasn't a large one.
