Diamond-frame Schwinn Cruiser question

I need some ID help and opinions from the Schwinn gurus here. I spotted an interesting Cruiser Deluxe at a second hand store, and the price is right ($20.) As much as I don't need another cruiser, I've never seen this model and I'm leaning in favor of grabbing it. It looks like a late 80s bike based on the diamond frame and Dia Compe MX brakes (which are probably worth the asking price.) Alloy rims & cranks, European bottom bracket, BMX-syle stem with cruiser bars, and big sofa for a seat. I couldn't get a good look at the rear because of some furniture in the way, but it looks to be a six-speed.

Diamond frame cruisers are still fresh in the unpleasant memories of the late 80's / early 90's for me, and there seems to be no interest in the forums I've checked, but I'm somehow intrigued...

Is anyone familiar with this model? Is it newer than I've suggested? Will I need to get a mullet wig to ride it properly?

For $20, it's worth it in parts alone for 'flip' bikes.

Bikes: '75 Schwinn Paramount P-10, '86 Ritchey Commando, '87 Schwinn Cimarron, '91 Trek 990, '87 Schwinn High Sierra, '73 Schwinn Super Sport, '4? Schwinn New World, '76 Swing Bike.

I think the late '80s is about right for these. It looks like '86 is when they appeared.

There may be a four-digit headbadge stamp (last digit will be last digit of year).

Can't go wrong for $20.

I got one for $30. Replaced the seat & bars with ones from an old Schwinn Continental that's ever less likely to see the road again. Also had to get a seat clamp from the parts bin, from an xmart bike I picked out of the trash. It's a nice bike now, fits me well & has the easy-handling long wheelbase Schwinn geometry. Couldn't see riding it any distance with the bolt-upright position of the original equipment. It's on my stand, has numerous tiny dings, some are rusting due to the salt, gotta figure out how to seal it up well so it doesn't melt away. The grease was sticky, just about froze up in subfreezing weather, but that's fixed now. In pretty good shape & I'm looking forward to riding it more. Have equipped with fenders & rack. Great commuter. Will post a pic when I get it fixed.

That's almost exactly it (though Don Johnson was nowhere to be found.) Thanks for the link Bob!

what is that guy doing in that catalog???? pushing the bike, that's probably fitting since they no doubt weigh a ton. Or is he bracing for impact?

Nope, surprisingly light, not your father's Schwinn. Alu wheels, lightweight tubing, neat tig welds. I looked for the 'Made in Taiwan' sticker, but... it's one of the last American Schwinns.
