Hello, I'm looking for infom on an older Nishiki Pro I traded for. The serial # doesn't seem to match the format you have posted. The BB has 4 teardrop cutouts with the following info. W centered on top, NP with 7X3 underneath on the left and 0060 on the right. Any info would be appreciated.

The bike is brick red with a silver seat tube and yellow decals. Scrapes on chainstays, seat stays and fork reveal chrome under the paint.
"Hand crafted by Kawamura 100% Chromoly" painted on the left chain stay. Seat tube stickers say "Tang 1 Cr-Mo Seamless Double-butted Tubing" and "Criterium Racing Frame Geometry." Fork sticker says ""Cro-Mo Steel Tang Fork Blade."

Picked this up for $35.
Danish serial-number is: WBT02544V, the last V indicating it was imported in 1982.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures before I cleaned it up.
Here are some afters, sorry about the bad quality:
The original saddle was of the exact same model, but with a golden dye, that had withered away. The original bar-tape was silvery, matching the fenders, but also in a sad condition. The fenders are original, and so is the luggage-carrier.
Not easy to see, but the letters are engraved, and in the same golden hue as the other decals.
Frame is Champion#5
A A look at the handlebar. The original hood had withered away, so it was replaced with a generic Weinmann.
The bike has three hub-gears, operated from this:
The gear-cable enters the rear-hub from the non-drivetrain side:
I have seen this on one other bike; an early '80 late '70 Centurion Le Mans. Any information on this will be appriciated.
Original things still on the bike:
Brake, claw and lever: Dia-Compe
Rims: Araya 27 X 1 1/4
Front hub: Shine 5345
Stem: Can't tell.
Seat post: Can't tell, but very stuck.

I have a late '72 Nishiki (american eagle) Olympiad and I was curious how I can tell what size bottom bracket and what tpe of threads it would have... Some one told me it might have English threads... I have no clue what kind of threads those are or how I can tell I have them.. Please Help... Crank broke and I am replacing it with a lighter one...

My Nishiki International has the serial CH00024 and decals tell me it's a handcrafted 100% chromoly frame by Kawamura with Infinity double butted tange tubing. I think my grandfather bought it in the late 80's, but the point made by the asteriks "* Serial number format may extend beyond 1987, but there are no reported examples, to date" causes me to believe it could be older. As some you may be aware, I have been collecting Nishiki data for several years in an attempt to more accurately determine their age and create a timeline of models. I now have sufficient data sets and confidence to report the results for serial numbers from the 1970s to mid 1980s, however sufficient data is lacking for the late 1980s onward.
To this end, it would appreciated if any Nishiki owners would submit posts with pics and specs of their Nihiki. A full, drive side view is the preferred pic. Requested info is model, year (if known), frame material and make, model and date codes of major components. For component date code format, location and decypher, refer to https://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm .

My Nishiki Rally (I Think)
My future father-in-law, at the time, gave me this bike as a Christmas present. He's "into" restoring bikes, but there's not much he was able to offer for this one. I say "I think" int he title because I wonder if maybe someone added the "Rally" decal. When I search of this bike, the pics never look like this one.

I can't find the serial number, I've looked under the bottom like many images suggest. It looks smooth as a baby's bottom, like nothing was ever there. I've spent a few minutes really looking around and can't locate it. Based on a little research, it looks like the Rally was only made in 1982? As the pics show, it has Suntour gearing. I'm happy to look over the bike more to give whatever data you'd like, but that's all I got for now. It's on 28" wheels on KunYu hubs? Not too sure of the proper language.
I was really just looking for decals, and now I fear I'm about to plunge into the vintage 10-speed culture headlong. Nice to meet all of you. :-)

Nishiki 10 Speed Model & Year?
Hi - what a great thread. My daughter brought home this Nishiki 10-speed from college and wants to restore it over the summer. Being a car restorer I like to know what I'm dealing with. The serial number doesn't match the format, but much of it is obviously original Nishiski. Any help on what I've got here would be greatly appreciated. In particular I'd like to know -
year and model?
Brakes - Front Schwinn (replaced I'm guessing and rear Weinmann (original?)
Anyone reproducing decals for "Japan" and "High Tensile Toshiba Tubing"?
Any original parts available? (the chrome is gone on the lower shifter cable holder)
Is the trim paint at the tube joints original?
Any pictures of original bike or literature?

need help IDing Nishiki (?) frame
I've been restoring a bike back to gears that was converted to a fixie. When I got it, someone had painted it (poorly) and removed all decals and other identifying info. The frame has two numbers imprinted on it:
Driveside rear dropout - G1283 (possibly G1288)
Left rear dropout - 8067340
So I know from this that it is a Giant-made frame from '83 or '88, but beyond that, I'm at a loss. I thought it was a Schwinn for a long time, but when repainting it I discovered a small heart-shaped braze-on underneath the downtube, towards the headtube. I know this is a common feature that kept downtube shifters from sliding, but I've yet to hear of Schwinns from '83 or '88 having these.
Here's some other info -
1.) Quill stem (labeled "83L" for the odd .833" sizing)
2.) 26.6 mm seatpost
3.) Square tapered bottom bracket with plastic dust cover
4.) Rear Brake cable guides on top of top tube
5.) Lugged frame
6.) Only one set of water bottle bosses
Most likely original parts left on -
1.) Weinmann alloy rims
2.) Sakae "Randnner" Road Champion bars
3.) Sakae CX cranks
4.) Dia-Compe sidepull brakes

this may be the wrong place for this question, but I picked up what I have determined to be (via T-Mar's serial number guide) a 1984 Nishiki Century, the serial number on the right dropout is G0584. I am having a problem with the rear derailleur and am looking to replace it (I beleive the springs went out), however I am new to bikes like this and don't know what kind of derailleur would be compatible with it. I'm not looking for anything super fancy, just something that does the job. If you need more info on the bike it's got sugino cranks with riveted chainrings, dia compe sidepull brakes, dia compe Brake levers, Shimano stem shift levers, and a shimano rear derailleur.

1988 Nishiki Modulus
Hi, I'm new to BF & this thread and thought some of you would like to see the Modulus I purchased this morning from a gentleman. I've really enjoyed all the info everyone shares especially T-Mar's knowledge of these bikes. The serial # on this bike is WG10518 so I believe it is a 1988. The bike came from Arizona originally so it hasn't seen much bad weather. And it shows! I think the bike is all original except for the saddle and pedals. Photo's pretty much show the componants. It is a 57 cm. I really don't think this bike has seen many miles. It rides and shifts like new. I guess it was my lucky day today! Thanks again. ScottB22

Nishiki Custom Sport
Hi, After looking through the data base, I'm confused. i have a Nishki Custom Sport, but the serial # is S1 6B253. Did I miss something or is this a different sequence than the others? It's a white frame with brown pinstriping and the serial number stamping is painted in brown as well. Thanks!

I just came into possession of a Nishiki from a friend's basement. I've noticed the photos here end up disappearing after a while, so I uploaded photos of the bike to Flickr.
Serial number is CF 01309. Using the serial number decoder, I assume this bike was made for Canadian market ("C") in 1986 or 1976 ("F"). I note too that it has a "Shields" decal that relates to the duty evasion stuff.
What's missing is any indication of the type of metal the frame is made from. Does anyone know? I'd be nice if the answer were 4130! Also, what is that stem? 'WILL'?
Much of the following info is found in the descriptions of the photos but here's what I know:
It's an 'International." Derailleurs are Shimano 600. Brakes are centre-pull Diacomp. Crank is Tourney (double chain rings).

Nishiki SN ?
I have a Nashiki that the SN does not go along with what I am finding in the DATA BASE?
The SN is also not on the BB, but on the left side of the seat tube at the bottom (read bottom to top). This bike may have been for a non US market. Any help would be appreciated.
From the decals appears to be mid to late 70's. JAPAN decal is on the center of the bottom seat tube also.

I purchased a Nishiki Road Bike new in 1980. I still have it, but not touched in 30 years. Are you interested in pics and info prior to me trying to restore it? It was a terrific bike rode ~150 miles per week in Livermore, Ca. In early 80's. Not looking very good now. Needs cleaning up and at least tires and tubes. Any suggestions on restoration would be helpful.

My frame's already been posted here on p. 25 as I got it from realestvin7. Since then I stripped it with plans to repaint, but I really like the look of the bare metal where you can see all of the brazing and welding work. Since it hasn't rained here in almost a year, there's not really any danger of rust for now. I ran it as a single speed for a while, but it's now my only roadie set up with vintage 8 speed Dura Ace for the most part with a few other Shimano bits here and there. Anyway, just wanted to show it off...'86 Nishiki International.

Early '80s Nishiki Competition

A friend was downsizing and gave me her Nishiki Competition, which she's had since the early to mid '80s. She got it new, but the serial number is CI00803, which, according to T-Mar's database, makes it a 1979 model. So who knows?
In any case, it's double butted Tange tubing, no braze-ons for cables, shifters or water bottles, Suntour GS drop-outs, Suntour Cyclone derailleurs, DiaCompe brakes (I replaced the Suntour Superbe levers with DiaCompe ones), fluted and colour-coordinated Sugino crankset with drilled chainrings, Nitto stem, Cycle Pro Champion bars and KKT Pro Vic II pedals. It has lovely lugwork and is a surprisingly stiff frame. I don't have a set of scales, but I'm guessing low 20s.
Sadly, at 57 cm it's a tad too big for me, and the gearing is getting pretty tall for these old knees: 23-14 freewheel and a 44-tooth inner chainring. Maybe a wider freewheel and a taller stem (with a nod to Grant Petersen) would make me enjoy this even more, because it's a very nice riding bike.

My Nishiki Sport
Hi, I just bought this bike today & it seems to be very old & in very stock condition. I don't know all the terminology you all use so I wasn't sure where to find my serial number. Nothing is pressed into the metal of the frame.
However, there is a number on a sticker on the vertical tube that goes from the seat down to the pedals. That number is 4130. Beneath it is written Chrome Moly Main Tubes.
I also found stickers that indicate the bike was licensed in California. One sticker reads California Bicycle License 6020. Beneath that is a sticker that reads California Bicycle Renewal 0100471 Expires December 31 198x. The last number has been defaced by age, but I think the year is 1988.
Since there's such a disparity between the original license number & the renewal number, I'm thinking my bike must be from the 1970s. Oh, the frame is manufactured in Taiwan, also. The previous owner attached a little bell, one of those Swiss baskets that hang over the rear wheel, a side view mirror and a speedometer. There is a frame for a water bottle beneath the handles.
It has one of those unisex frames I've read about on these forums. I think it's a Mixte, but I'm not certain. It's nothing fancy, that's for sure, but I would love to know more about it.
