Cable Routing Problem with Viking frame

I'm building up a British 1958 Viking frame with a set of modern components I had left over from a crashed Specialized. I've got as far cable routing....

I'm using Shimano STI's and they need the downtube barrel adjusters but the frame only has one downtube shifter boss. Therefore I need to find a clamp on set of shifter bosses so I can bolt on those removable barrel adjusters. Has anyone any idea where to get the clamp on bosses? I've searched on Ebay, cycling shops but haven't anything.

The frame also doesn't have an underneath BB shell cable guide screw thread. So for the front derailleur could I run bare cable underneath the downtube from the barrel adjuster then to a cable stop and use cable housing as a replacement for a BB cable guide?

I did as best as I could to describe what I'm trying to do so I hope it makes sense!

Any suggestions?

P.S I wish I had the time and MONEY to build it with fairly period parts but I'm at school!

Would something like this might work?

Edit: I probably have a Simplex version of this I could send you. PM me if you're interested.

Thank you for the quick reply! I take it thats a clamp on boss? If so then that would be perfect because then I would have two bosses on the frame so I can put the barrel adjusters on. Where did you find it?

Would my cable routing for the front derailleur work alright?

Thats really how bikes were set up back then before braze on's, or on cheap bikes W/O Braze ons. You should buy a old cable stop clamp that will clamp on your downtube right in front of the BB shell, one side will route your rear cable and the other for the front, the left side for the front derailleur with have a cable stop. You'll have a very short amount of cable from there to the cable stop on the front derailleur.. if You're using a newer derailleur it might not (rear: most likely wont) have one however, so you may have to improvise and use an older derailleur.

Here is what im talking about, bottom left of the picture:

Have any photos of your viking frame by the way?

Hi there again,

I have a picture showing my cable routing idea for STI shifters on this Viking frame--------->

What do you think?

The cable shouldnt run under the BB for the front derailleur, although in theory I guess it could work.

But here how its typically done for example:

Thanks for the info, I guess it doesn't need to be under the BB. The thing is I've got a modern FD which doesn't have a built in cable stop, should I use another clamp cable stop below the FD on the seat tube?
Thanks, Sam

No reason why it can't be bare cable all the way from the downtube stop all the way to the front derailleur.

Huh? You sure about that? The cable would run straight up from the clamp on guide (probably getting sheared after quite a few shifts) from the bottom of the downtube right to the derailleur and rub up against his seat tube just reaching the FD.

Thats what I thought too, I'm just curious in how to get the FD cable from the downtube stop to the FD. Is there any other solutions? thanks people for your interest

I had my cables on my trek going from the downtube shifters to the fd/rd without any housing except for the tiny loop for the RD.

No shearing. Infact, my modern cannondale is exactly the same way. Nothing from the stops to the FD. No problems.

But you must of had some sort of cable guide either above or below the BB right?
