Need help with vintage Lemond ID

Hi all -

My girlfriend has an older Lemond in darn good shape, but we can't source any period pictures as to how old it is....or of its provenance in general. We think its from the early nineties, but it could be older than that. It's clearly a frame made by Columbus. The original wheelset and period Bullseye hubs might be significant clues. See attached pics, thanks in advance!

Probably another Billato-built bike... not very informative I know.

No, that is helpful. Much appreciated. We figure it is a GAN era bike, but that's only a guess.

If anyone can pin down a year and provenance, a million thanks....

Cheers,

You may be able to find date codes on the Shimano components, although that Deore RD may not be original

The frame is cromo so it should be a mid level frame no?

That stem looks really friggin high though, sure it isn't past minimum insertion?

Looks like a great rider though. The setup is very nice. 600 is good stuff! I have a 600 RD (happens to be for sale ) and it worked really well while I was using it!

There is a Reno Builder, Della Santa, who built Frames for Greg Lemond. This one looks like maybe it is one of his.
I had owned a Billato built bike and sold it to a friend. I currently have a Scapin built GL (1990) and imported through TenSpeed Imports. Most of the European frames were brought into the US through TenSpeed. I couldn't see the decal (it is white with dark lettering and a S/N). Google Della Santa and send him the S/N from your bike.
The SL looks like it might be from the 86 time frame. They are great bikes. Although I have a collection of bikes the GL is still ridden a lot. I was luck to have gone on a ride where GL was doing a promotional for a bike store. I got him to Autograph the left chain stay and put some Clear chainstay tape on the signature.
I did upgrade the bike with a 1991 Campy 8 Spd chorus group. Still rides like a dream.

Mine has a label referring to the 1989 TDF win. Yours may be before that.
Does yours have the Ten Speed Drive number?

Here's a thread I created very recently about my very similar Lemond Le Vanquer track bike. All relevant information there should also apply to yours.

My TenSpeed Imports label has an S/N 01726. The tubeset is SLX which was the high end tubing of the time. I believe my bike is 1988 and not 1990 based on the Seat Tube Label which refers to 1986 win.

I said this about ten seconds ago is that other Lemond thread, but if you're wondering about the year your bike was built, check the fork's steerer tube. Mine has what was apparently the complete date that my frame was constructed written in marker of the steerer tube.

not that I'd be one to take what wikipedia says as the golden truth, but they say ("claim" is more like it) Greg Lemond bicycles didn't get going until 1990...?

I should add, "Lemond" cycles' website says 21 years, so... wiki screwed-up again, someone should probably fix that.

So does anyone have a ballpark on what these kind of bikes are worth? I really have no idea.

A million spacebucks.

Seriously though, there is no pricing guide. Just see what past ones have sold for on eBay (if you can find them).
