I feel bad for you, but I'm glad to hear it wasn't a black Peugeot.

I can't wait to see that bike back on the road. If a 22" (or even 23") SS pops up, I'm all over it.

Pastor Bob is a very kind man. He knows that patience is a virtue, as well.

I feel worse that it's Pastor Bob's bike though. Hopefully Dr. D will be able to work some painterly magic on it.

I do appreciate everyone's suggestions, especially huerro's kind offer of pink star stickers, and the thought of Hello Kitty stickers from solveg .

Fortunately, Pastor Bob has given up BikeForums for Lent, so Dr. D has a few days before PB finds out!

At least it didn't land on the BB!! I got a frame back from the powdercoater once, and there was a flat spot on the BB. More than likely they had dropped it during the sandblasting phase. It was a one piece crank bike, so not the end of the world thank goodness.,,,,BD

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
A candy color? Kinda hard to do a blend, Dr D.
"Kinda hard" means "dang near impossible" in this case.
I almost dropped a frame once; put it on the peg, and it started to slowly work it's way off the peg, but I caught it! And a handful of nice, wet, 2021. Yay!!! Lots of sanding later, and 2 more coats of clear, she looked fine. But it was a base/clear, not a tri-coat. I always wince when I'm shooting candy colors for just this reason-if anything happens, it's back to Square One.

Good luck, kind sir. I hope the fix is easier than it may seem at this point in time.

Aye, the sad reality..

The "up"side, if you can call it that, is that it's not as bad as I feared.

Two bad spots are the rear dropout & the chip right in the middle of the toptube.

Fortunately, the rest of the chips are in places that I can blend pretty easily. And the dropout is not a hi-vis spot so I think I can work that out as well.

The top tube...that's the one that gets me.
The Little Kitty & the pink star suggestions made me chuckle...because
one idea I had was to have JR make me a custom gold shooting star decal. Just big enough to cover the chip so I wouldn't have to blend (ie; F up) the top tube.

Might look a bit out-of-place, but not as bad as a bad candy blend.
Basically the top tube is what you'll be looking at every time you ride, so I want the red THERE to be perfect!
And it IS! . . . . .except for that one .. little ... chip!

And the box lining stripes came out beautifully! Picture of that when the sun comes up.

It's not 11 yet, but here are the pics of the tragedy...

Hi Dr.D,

I've read this thread 5 times now - there can't be anything more disappointing than a damaged paint job but I'm amazed by your positive attitude

Looks like the left rear dropout got knocked closed a bit. I would take my cold chisel and lever it back open properly.

I just came home from 8 days of vacation. I know, I know, vacation in Lent? It was my wife's 25th anniversary with her employer. Kind of a rare thing these days.

I knew from the first post when he mentioned "boxed pinstripes," it was my Super Sport.

I am patient, and kind, but I can't help but be disappointed about the delay. But more importantly I feel for Dr.Deltron. He emailed me late last week with one pic of his great progress. I was only on email once and I picked the day he sent it. I couldn't help but grin at the computer screen.

I know he has to be soooooo frustrated. So I understand. Besides, we've only had about 150 inches of snow, so there is no way I'm riding this bike before June 1, at the earliest.

Hang in there Dr.D. I've plenty of stuff to do!

East Hill,

The (in)famous bike that has been in the process of painting is the Tete.

It was a fun discussion over dinner with some BikeForums members in August 2006. The question was asked if Rad's Tete would ever be painted...

I have faith that Pastor Bob's Schwinn, my Raleigh, Dirtdrop's Peugeot, AND top's Ironman will all be finished years before Rad's Tete. I think the next time I'm passing through Sherwood that I will liberate the Tete.

Did I forget anyone?

Dare I ask?

Are there plants being grown to be used for pigment?

Rocks being collected for rare minerals?

It hasn't really progressed much beyond this point.

Besides, it's only been 3 years and 7 months.

Foolishly did a star apple paint job on my Harley about 30 years ago. My best friend pleaded with me to paint his the same way. I refused, for his own good. When I dinged my front fender, he finally understood. The guy I sold it too hit a car with it; the repair shop painted it a single coat red lacquer and had it done with.

That looks very nice, young man. Now if you could only learn how to get the clear to flow out nicely, you'll be set!!
Looks awesome, just as I would have expected. What happened round the seattube?

Oh, and Rad, you're frame still isn't done? My goodness, that's terrible.
