Peewee's Big Adventure, this is not a recommendation though.
[Pee-wee is offering a $10,000 reward to whoever finds his bike]
Dottie: Pee-wee, how are you ever going to pay a reward like that?
Pee-wee: It's simple. Whoever returns the bike is obviously the person who stole it. So they don't deserve any reward!

While on the subject of bikes and films, there was a movie made in the 70s? about two corrupt cops. In one scene they arrange a meet with a gangster in Central Park. The park is closed to traffic, so they show up in a sqaud car. The gangster has a bunch of guys on bicycles and they chase the police car through the park. I can't remember the title and it's driving me crazy. Can anyone ease my pain?

Joe Kid on a Stingray, and would the New World Disorder series count?
I still find this, surreal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aupl370Wm8A

Does anyone get how some movies can be so freaking bad you just have to watch them - again and again? I mean, were talking C-movie time here:
"10-Speed"
A cheesy, bike-boom era (I think it was shot in 1975) movie about a three day 'race' from San Francisco to Malibu. The opening scene has the 'hero' riding his AMF gaspipe rig through SF while wearing a 3-piece suit. He ducks under a plate of glass being toted by two workmen and foils a purse snatching while riding to his advertising agency job. It's all downhill from there...
I've probably watched it 20 times since getting the VHS tape via Ebay two years ago. I think something's wrong with me.

One of my favorites. Great opening sequence with the peloton approaching.

The Triplets of Belleville is one of my favorites.

I've had Bicycle Thief on my instant watch queue for a while but haven't watched it yet.
Another less obvious 'bike animation' film is Kiki's Delivery Service, while Kiki doesn't ride a bike she is a 'broom courier' and other characters bike as well. And anyone who has ever delivered anything on a a bike, in the rain, can identify with Kiki.

Just watched American Flyers, good movie! Guess it helps that I lived and studied in downtown Golden, CO so I recognized every scene in the last half of the movie.
Also found out they're bringing back (parts of) the Coors Classic this year as the "Superior Morgul Classic", can't wait! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgul-Bismarck

I love Quicksilver! I bought Breaking Away on DVD recently. Anybody check out the cover? The image is reversed. The art director must not be a bike person.
I love the CBS Bike shows with the John Tesh music, mid 80's. I put my copies on DVD.

I was around during those times and was hanging out with the bunch just outside Hollywood and know a good few local riders(there wweren't that many). Who's your friend? Did Rick Denman(sp?) had anything to do witht hat film. He is the one guy that I know of that has his hand in everything that had to do with a bike and film.
I waited for 3 hours for American Flyer by myself in Hollywood. I skipped school that day.

In the mid 80s, I helped a couple of USC film students with a film called the Cyclist. We ronded up a bunch of people, many were my friends and we rode for many of the shots in the film. Lots of racing footages were filmed at our Manhattan Beach Grand Prix. He had 2 paid actors but one could not ride across the finish line with no hands. I played the bad guy (Armstrong to Beloki look)who dusted the star of the movie up a hill during training. Anyone locally involve in that thing?
