Actually, if you look at the teeth on the cogs and chainring, they look unused. I think the chain is just off. Easily reduces the bike's value on an offer.

What I mean by that is… I was drawn to the Mixte design, because of a replacement hip on my left side. I have found that bikes with a lower top bars are safer for me to mount and dismount. But, I have came to appreciate the Mixte frame design, for having such a unique and unmistakable look. I know form follows function, but to me, it seems all the new bicycles look the same. I would probably be drawn to the Mixte even if physical limitations didn’t dictate the need.

The reason I ask about “how many other men” is because I’m always reading where somebody is putting a Mixte together for a Wife, Daughter, or Girl Friend, but I was wondering how many other men really like the frame design, just for the unique aspect of riding one. After all, the very name implies that it was designed for both sexes…

Women, can feel free to post as well, because it is also a style choice for you as well, but it is probably thought more normal (whatever that is) for you than for a man.
This thread title cracks me up. It sounds like a Monty Python skit.

Maybe it was a subconscious thing, I do really love all the Monty Python stuff… My wife says it has warped my mind beyond repair…

I`we had my hands on many mixte`s but gave most of them away, they are all a bit small. Got one now, a Motobeance that is just about big enough. Not on the road yet, I am remowing the road bars and putting Albatross bars for a more upright position.

Had two "almost mixte MTB`s" on my hands- single toptubes, but almost right. Strong frames, seat tube is not going to bend as is happening with alot of "steptrough" frames, but I found them too heavy.

Trying to make my "older bikefriend" to ride a mixte i brought to him last autumn. He is not riding bikes any more, but he still talks about doing it. I hope a mixte frame can make him ride for some more yrs. A lot of older men ride "steptrough frames" in this area. Why not?

I teach my son that a real man is one that can sit down when peeing and ride a mixte. Why let others judge you? He had some bad incidents with mens bikes when stopping on a red light. He call them "nutcrackers". He rides a sloping toptube MTB or a mixte or similar bike when 700 wheels is preferred.

This is a link to the site of our local bikeguru, some typical older bikes for the area. https://www.denrustneeike.no/samling.asp

And this is some bikes for sale, especially the red "steptrough" ones is typical. https://www.denrustneeike.no/brukte_sykler.asp

Well, would I invite you to ride with me if I didn't plan to go at a pace that is comfortable for you?? Eesh.
Eh. My current bike is a diamond frame. Next one will be a step through, because I'm clumsy and a step through is easier for me to manage (especially when loaded!).

I think a lot of women are easily intimidated by "sports". All those awful memories of gym class... It can be hard to get past that, even if the woman likes being active. I spent most summers during my teen years teaching swimming and biking to the library, and I *still* can fall into the "ew, active" trap.

And for women who aren't gearheads, bikes can be extra special intimidating. Heck, my sister is just as good at car repair as I am, and is better at some other mechanical stuff. When she got her new bike, she found the gears a bit intimidating. And I had to convince her that the reason she got a bike with all those gears was so she could *use* the low gears to get up hills.

Some women are intimidated by "sports," you're right. I was one of them till I rediscovered my bikes (I was also twenty pounds *under* weight, constantly ill, emotionally a right mess, and generally fragile and "feminine." IT SUCKED.)

If I can get from that to my current state in two years, anyone can ride. No excuses.

Aaron - you beat me to the punch! The minute I read his request I thought of that website! My friend Mark showed it to me the other day. I commute and am always trying to think of ways to throw people off....as if me on my bike in the midst of "Bigger in Texas" Hummers and Diesels wasn't confusing enough for everyone.

I am going to do the dress/heels thing this summer on my Raleigh 3-spd (have to put back together first.) We'll see what the Peanut Gallery at work has to say then.

I still feel like men have the ultimate one up in the urination arena. Who wouldn't want to pee standing?

I think the easy access and ability to aim and point is something that I would like .

The point is who would like to clean up after one?

Wow…just wow…

I’m a man… I ride a Mixte…but I pee standing up. For that I make no concessions, or apologies… My Bladder and Prostrate are happier that way, and at the age of 47 these things are becoming increasingly more important to me…

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yep that takes the concept of a step through frame to the extreme… I have seen those before and always thought it was a interesting concept. Question… do you ever put one foot in the middle and use it like a Scooter? Or, is it made so that you could do that?

I don’t need that low of a step through yet, but after my next hip replacement, I may…

Really Good looking bike, after one gets used to it, and understands the utility of it... But, I bet you get some looks sometimes going down the road...

I own a couple of Peugeot mixte, but I don't ride them because they are so heavy (and too small). My teen son rode one with pride for awhile until he discovered that road bikes don't have to be that heavy and switched.

Bikes: A couple old Schwinn Cross bikes , couple Specialized , a few Cruisers

I picked up my second Mixte today . The first being a blue Raleigh, and today a black Unigeva with red graphics. I been putting off fixing up the Raleigh , but with this Univega coming along , I'm going to fix both up to ride. I'm a male 5'-11" but have the inseam of someone 4"-5" shorter . I've had trouble finding a nice used road bike that fits; Most are too tall . both these frames feel about right. I like the looks of the Mixte frame . I'll post some pictures in next couple of days. kirby

Wow… haven’t seen this ole thread for a while. I’m still riding my Mixte. Seems like this summer I’ve seen a bunch of men riding step through frames, and even a couple of them riding Mixtes. Maybe more men are finding the practical reasons for riding step through frames appealing… or maybe I just notice them more now that I‘m looking for them.

Here is a picture of my Mixte… I've posted it nearly everywhere else, why not in this thread too. It’s not like I like the bike or anything.

I want a mixte soooooo bad. I passed up a couple this summer because I wanted red, and now I'm regretting it because I haven't seen any since (on CL).

If anyone has a small (I'm 5'2") red mixte you'd like to sell, let me know.

Nice!! ^^^^

Mixtes with drop bars make my head explode. Drop bars just look so "unbalanced" on this style of frame.

If it were mine, I'd keep the handlebars. But I'd install a seat from a Raleigh Chopper with a sissy-bar.
