the never ending search..
...continues. i am looking for an older weekend warrier, soi can ride with my GF, and possible commuter as i into better shape. i came across this Nishiki and have been in contact with the owner.
https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/m...624089848.html
my questions are:
A) does anyone have any idea what kind is nishiki it is?
2) is it worth following up on/how is the price
D) with a stand over height of about 33' what would the size of the bike be?
most of the bike is original, aside from consumables like tires and brakes. it also has a replacement seat and seatpost. there is an onboard computer that needs an new battery and ultimatly to be reprogrammed.
thanks to everyone who has helped me on my quest so far. it is much apreciated, i have learned a ton!!
email from the owner:
Here are the photos. If there are other specific areas you want pictures of, let me know. Also, the seat and seat post have been replaced from the original. I think the model is 562 sport. Original purchase date August 1981
i wo9uld have posted the picts right into the thread but with so many i did not want to kill the upload time.

Looks like a nishiki rally... Disclaimer I looked at pic 1 and 2 only....
Toshiba mild steel tubing... i.e. heavy gaspipe... you could do a lot better for $100 I would pay $40 tops, you will not enjoy riding this bike if you want to do nice long rides on the weekend.. hold out for something that is at least entry level for actual road biking. This is the bike they sold at the lowest price point for someone who thought they might want to get into road biking or just wanted it for swaggering around the neighbourhood, not a good first road bike, if you really want to lay down some miles.

It's not a great deal at $100 - you could do worse, but you could certainly do better. There are several signs of it being a low-end bike; the stamped drops w/no derailleur hanger, the dork disk and suicide levers, the bolt-on rims, the Honor RD.
In my market, I see similar bikes at thrift stores and flea markets for about $25.
On the other hand, it's probably a tough bike with plenty of life in it, and it won't be as fragile as a modern department store bike. I'd guess the size to be around 60-62cm.

The rear rim appear to be upgraded to alloy but the front is the original steel. Definitely pass on this one.
