Paramount Bike Project Advice Please

Greetings,

I have attached some pictures of my 72 Paramount frame. I am at a point where I am either going to have the frame painted or try and touch it up and ride it as is. I have a full campy 8-speed group that I’m going to build it up with.

First, do any of you think this is the original paint? I have my doubts since there is some over spray on the front fork lugs, you can see it in the attached photos

If I go with the current paint, what are your suggestions on caring for the paint and rust? The chips in the paint don’t worry me as much as the rust blisters. If I stay with the current paint, what is the best way to amend the blisters while making the current paint presentable? If there is no good solution then I’ll probably go ahead and have the frame painted.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Tracy

Bikes: 71 Chrome Paramount P13-9, 73 Opaque Blue Paramount P15, 74 Blue Mink Raleigh Pro, 91 Waterford Paramount, Holland Titanium x2

That doesn't look like an original color to me. On my original Paramount, though, the area under the fork is sprayed like yours is, and so is my wife's Paramount.

If it were mine, I'd have it painted in a year appropriate color with reproduction decals. That paint looks beyond touching up.

Whatever you choose, good luck!

Bikes: Chesini X-Uno, etc.....

That Paramount should have a serial number on the outside of the non-drive side dropout. And that fork should have the same number on the steerer tube. What number do you have?

My guess is they sprayed over the lugs to keep them from corroding and pitting, I'd imagine that would be a particularly susceptible area.

Looks to be repainted given position of decals. If you have the dough, worthy of being restored. From the photos it looks like problems under the paint.
