Bikes: Snazzy* Schwinns, Classy Cannondales & a Super Pro Aero Lotus (* Ed.)

Mark,

You continously outdo yourself and as always, remain a wee bit hard on yourself. Blackie the Peugeot looks superb!

I've been waiting for nice weather to take a good outdoor shot of Sporty. When I do I'llsend you a real copy, not just some email version. And for some reason Mrs. PB wants to call it "Sparky" (I believe she feels it is more sparkly than sporty)!

Actually, the factory striping on the end caps was so perfect that it couldn't possibly have been done by hand. I told Mark that he should repaint the caps black and blend the clear. I think he's going to try to fix the striping, but I don't think that will work.

Nice work Dr.D. I wanted the lines on Corky's seatstay caps but didn't get them. That's okay I don't deserve them. Corky's finish date is now Indefinite. For shame on me.

I tried reinstalling and everything. No luck. WTF I am pissed right now.
Hmmm, I have Firefox 3, Adblock Plus, and have no problems at all. If you click on 'tools' Adblock should be listed, click on that and the list of blocked sites should show up. If bikeforums.net is in there, remove it.

The originals were likely tampos or decals (waterslide or dry transfer, I would not know).

Can't the striping be removed with 3M Microfinishing Compound?

Nothing like a little black number.

Joan Jett and Chrissy Hynde come to mind.

Black bikes are nice, too.
Shimano 105 in black, Cinelli in black, and carbon fiber is close enough.

Hats off to the good doctor...

They'd be easy to remove if they weren't under the clearcoat.

So I use trusty 220 grit & they come right off!

Then I'll spend several hours puting them back on ..correctly.. and reclearing.

In the end it'll be beautiful and correct.

and cost about $900.

Which is much higher than my original quote of $5-600.

Even at $900, I'd only clear about $5/hour.

Just to fix the hole in the seattube I spent $25 on a new can of Metal-to-Metal bondo and another $20 on a seatpost cuz I didn't HAVE a 26.4 seatpost handy to check the fit. Not one that I could scratch up at all.
Then about 4 hours to get it all worked out. The seat post does NOT get scratched going in now.
Sooo, at my gardening rate of $30/hour, plus materials, fixing the hole cost $165!!!

...I think I quoted $40.

NOT that I expect DirtDrop to fork over the extra $$$, ..I quoted whatever I quoted.
Too bad I'm not as good at estimating/quoting, as I am at the actual painting!

Hence my decission to quit painting. It's just costing me tooo much $$$!

As a reference, my wife called The Ace of Cakes, that guy on the FOOD channel that does those fancy theme cakes. Theme cakes START at $1,000!!!

A GRAND on UP! And 3 days later, it's ready to compost!!!
I get half that, and my work will last 30 YEARS or more!!!

So, beyond the few frames that are already here, my base price for a single color is....

$1,000!!!

Still interested?

Didn't think so!

At least I'll have more time for the wife & 4 kids.

But for now, I'm going to go finish the PX-10 and get it back to DD.
Pictures when I'm done, I promise!
