Bikes: Mercian, Viscount x2, Holdworth La Quelda, Gundle Trade Bike, Williams/Mercian Tourer, Itera,

I saw this one on ebay and thought of bidding until it went crazy. (As I thought!)
Instead I got a 20s (?) Swift loop-frame for £35.

Won't know if it's a bargain until I pick it up though....
Poor photo and only two newbie bidders might just be cool.

Ah, so you got that! I watchlisted it out of interest. Looks okay but then, I think that because it's old and anything that survives that long is okay to me.

Yes, the X went for a lot but never having seen one myself I assume it's a 'rare, collector's item'. I expected it to go for a lot. It looks pretty hard to get comfortable on, though.

The Tiverton Tourist went for £36, a pound more than I bid. I'm now looking at https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...:X:AAQ:GB:1123

If it's old enough I think I'll buy it. It's huge, though. I've asked the seller what the stand-over height is as I don't want to hurt myself. It's 25.5 inches c to t.

Did you see this?

I would have gone to around $350 if the seller had been anyone other that the Sultan of Flakeland. It's a lovely frame.

Bikes: Mostly English - predominantly Raleighs

That thing has about the shortest effective top tube length I've ever seen. I can't imagine steering that without bumping one's knees with the handlebars.

I never saw the like of the UK Dawes, but they made so many different machines a lot of them are unknowns now.
Might be a good buy though... Looks like late 70s early 80s with the chain-guard.
The Galaxy I liked a lot but they are so xxxxing expensive

The Swift is still an unknown cos the seller is not good at communicating, but I'll post pics when I set eyes on it.
Just have a feeling about it.
The seller is a theatre costume supplier and bought it as a prop in a play about Sunbeams.
So it might even be a Sunbeam in the end.
It looks as if it has a late 3 speed trigger in the pic.
Part of the fun though.
You never know till you see sometimes.
