Measuring pedal threads

So I have an older (circa 1980's) KHS road bike and I need to buy new pedals for it. I'm not quite sure how to tell if they are 9/16'' or 1/2''. Any suggestions on how to measure them or what size pedals this bike needs? Thanks for reading!

Bikes: Motobecane Mirage fixed gear, Nashbar Alpha Road 5000, Bianchi Grizzly, Coppi Fiorelli, , Schwinn Trike, , GT All Terra, Old Peugeot, Nishiki 3 speed, Bugatti, Cannondale Black Lightning, Dura All, Bianchi Touring, Bridgestone T700 & more

Pretty much guaranteed it's a standard 9/16" pedal. 1/2" was used on kids bikes and old American cruiser type things.....
