Northbend's usual eye-popping scenery. C-Molly's 150, very nice. (The Veloflex Master is a clincher, right? That's what's on my Gazelle at the moment. I really like 'em.) jmeb, how come you didn't get to enjoy the descent? You stayed at the top? arcocelli, that looks really nice, and flat as, um, Kansas.

After yesterday's not-quite-50 miles we took the tandem out again today. Our band played a church service this morning so we did a relaxing 17.8 miles this afternoon.

A brief stop at the Concord River

That is a lovely view from your home. A friend of mine and I have plans to ride from NYC to Montreal next spring if all goes according to plan. I still haven't visited Montreal despite wanting to since college. It will also give me the opportunity to practice French which I am actively trying to learn. I cannot wait!

As for me I rode across The High Bridge for the first time on Friday and I must say that the restoration performed is amazing. I rode into Manhattan first then across the bridge to the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx and back home. The bridge had been closed wince the 1970's and is currently the oldest standing bridge in NYC. It was a lovely, quick ride but HOT!

Here are a couple of quick photos that I took with my '94 Cannondale R600 that I rode.

Better ride to France instead

Just kidding, I think the Quebecois generally have a lovely accent. Doubt many Frenchman would agree with me, though. But I'm with you on the biking Montreal thing; I'd love to give it a try someday. Would really like to spend some time biking around NYC, too. Be interesting to see if a country mouse like me would survive there.

Nice pic Jim.

I decided to take off work and extend the weekend. The beach was 15 degrees cooler then inland.

My wife andI actually cycled through Brittany in the northwest of France in Sept. 2013 and it is one of the most memorable places and experiences of my life. Truly stunning and the people are incredible. We actually rode the Canal du Nantes a Brest. In addition we stayed with our French friends along the way in three towns then at the end in Paris with other friends (all French). Truly incredible. Next year to Quebec!

If you ever decide to come to NYC let me know. Riding here is great but can take a little getting used to due to the sheer numbers of people.

This has to be of my favorite threads. It makes me want to visit all of your hometowns. Great photos and descriptions.

High 90's ewww...

You'd do much better riding in the mid 60's, then heading straight for the keg.

Montreal is a great city for riding, I am only just discovering it. And La Route Verte in Quebec, which includes Montreal, was rated the #1 cycle route by National Geographic (not sure when).

I'm not French, I'm originally from Ontario, but the Quebecois accent can certainly be lovely. Colourful is a better word though! Funny how it works around here as Montreal while not officially a bilingual city is very much bilingual and I never know if I should say "On your left!" or "a la gauche!" There's that split second before your brain interprets what's being said where has to decide what language it is first. Thankfully, my bell speaks a universal language.

Spent a wonderfull week on the bike in the south of France last week. Saturday was Mont Ventoux day. I never bring a camera (should, though) but the slopes of the Ventoux are lined with professional photographers who take pictures of anything that moves and have someone slipping you their card when you pass. Like the slopes, prices are steep.

The pic I bought:

This photographer uses the latest Performance Enhancing software, much to my liking.

The pic I didn't buy:

Madame Germaine forgot her basket with groceries on the summit and went back to retreive it. Here she almost catches up with me.

Lol, epic! I love it. I have iPhoto too, lets you make the hills as steep as you want.

Here's my fixie on yesterday's ride out to the Elwha River, which famously flows uphill at that stretch. You can't see it, but the hill is so steep I had to lock my bike to the guardrail to keep it from rolling backwards.

I just been doing my commutinging as usual.

Two days ago I rode the Peugeot, a great bike that rides far better than its heritage, specs, or price would indicate, and 43 years old this year.

Yesterday I rode the Centurion, a very sweet bike with quick but rock-steady handling and which likes to climb and go fast. I spent part of one stoplight cycle admiring a hawk circling overhead.

I rode the Gazelle today, an awesome bike which can almost fly. Got one flat on a stretch of road which is always decorated with the sparkle of glass chips. It serves me right for riding Veloflex Masters instead of Pasela TGs, but whatever piece of tinsel got me might have gone through Kevlar too. It took about 15 minutes to change the tube and get going again. Had it been a sew-up it would have taken only 5 but I'd have to spend an hour tonight fixing it. Sometimes I like to tempt fate. Today I lost.

If you've never done it, try leaning up against a high-tension line tower or pole; you can feel the vibration of those things coursing through the structure. I never realized this until a couple months ago when I wandered down the powerline road near my house to watch the total lunar eclipse. Very cool combo.

Too bad there's not some way to avoid those pieces of glass causing punctures.

Maybe a section of metal bar that hangs off the bike, somehow, to knock those shards from the tire.

Just a silly idea, sorry, never mind, fate controls, right?

Oh, you like, what are they called, tire savers?

I suspect whatever I hit went right through to the tube on first contact!

Addendum: It turns out that it wasn't a puncture after all. A seam in the tube on the inside facing the rim strip split. Must have been, shall we say, defective.

I rode the Gazelle to the office and back again today. I even wore an orange jersey in honor of the bike's nationality. Well, also because the color stands out to drivers. That champion mondial is quite the thing. I wish I had a picture to post. Alas, no.

It was a very productive day at work today too. And te3h beer id good. Liife id goos.

Last Saturday I rode a 115 miles with a couple friends. We rode out to Coupeville on Whidbey Island. All in all, there was about 8,000 feet of climbing for me.

This is a picture of me, from a bunker at Fort Casey

Yesterday, I took the tandem out with my kid for 31 miles on the MUP. We are getting noticeably faster this year, our average speed throughout the ride(on the tandem) has jumped up a bit.
