Coffee and a nice ride on Midsummer Day in coastal Sweden.
Much of the ride was in gravel and deep, loose sand with a brutal headwind, so I got to use my lowest gears. I also got to see parts of the coast near my house I hadn't gone to before.

Looks beautiful Diego. I would love to travel to Norway and Sweden one day to learn more about my Scandanavian roots.

No pics. First 20 was nice, thought I was doing well.
Turned around and realized I'd had a tailwind. Kind of warm.
Felt slow, and it was. Centurion Ironman has now been subjected to sweat.

Did the CCRT to the roundabout and took the Old Colony branch to Chatham. Did it on my single speed DL-1. Nice work out. At the Chatham end gave some tourists dining tips. Caught some more tourists couple miles down one of whom was from Holland, got to talking about his bike back home. Fun. They stopped to take pictures and I rode on. Grabbed a frappe and ended up passing the tourist group again when they stopped for another photo op. Going by the mileage markers on the trail maybe a 22 mile ride.

I rode around Mt. Tam today. I had hoped to make it to the ascent to the top, but the legs and stomach weren't cooperating, so I skipped the last turnoff to the east peak. I usually just leave from my door, but I threw the Look into the car and crossed over to the north bay to start the ride. Short warm-up on a MUP--a scenic place for a walk, but a reminder why I avoid them on a bike.
Started in Corte Madera and headed toward the Bolinas Rd. ascent to Alpine Lake. Below is a shot from the crest of the first climb overlooking said lake, followed by a couple from the descent into the Redwoods.
The lake and dam sit at the bottom of another climb. The climb from the lake goes to the crest of the mountains overlooking Bolinas Bay. (if you can see it under the fog). The old 39x26 was enough, but not by a lot.
^The Pacific is down there somewhere.
I followed Ridgecrest up and then around the other side of Mt. Tam before heading back to the east bay.

Beautiful pictures that a bunch of you all post up!
Earlier this morning, I went out on my '85 Fuji and did an out 'n back ride along Patterson Ave into the next county, turned around, and came back. 27.25 miles all totalled. Not too bad... Some of the short hills were a little tough, but not too bad. It was pretty much a straight shot from my house in the west end of Richmond, VA out to Goochland County to the small post office in Crozier, VA.
Sorry, no pictures. All I have is the a computer screen print from MapMyRide that I saved my data onto.

We're visiting my son and his family near Kenosha, WI. Yesterday was the annual Kenosha County Diary breakfast so I joined the 'official' 10 mile ride from Salem thru Wheatland to the farm. I used the largest of the BSOs that my daughter-in-law had plucked from yard sales and curbs and it did just fine. Its a 12 spd bog box road bike, maybe late 80s, but it had large cruiser bars on it. I brought out a mtn bike bar that was on my shelf and swapped out the cruisers, then did some basic derailleur maintenance and it was ready to go. The countryside was beautiful way out in western Kenosha county and the road shoulders were wide and clean. Nice to see many cyclists out here using the roads and keeping the cars aware.
There was a very nice 83 Eddy Merckx on the ride with us. Owner had bought the f/f new and built it up with lots of Durace and stuff. Beautiful bike. His wife rode a nice Peugot mixte. Another gal rode a nice Trek 720 tourer. The County Executive, who organized the ride and lined up the Sheriff's escort, rode his green Schwinn Varsity - bought new in 73. Otherwise all new machines. I enjoyed it greatly though I missed my proper C&Vs back at home. My legs sure felt doing the hills on that heavy BSO. Good exercise. Excellent weather. Yummy pancakes. Very nice people.

Happy Fathers Day all ~
Yesterday, I pushed the throttle and scrubbed some car tire rubber up to WI and in the general area where the Dairyland Dare takes place. Met up with forum members iab and Larry O. of W.VA (sorry I don't know Larry's moniker).
Mister iab was on his brilliant hotrod stainless Cinelli, Larry on a gorgeous minty Eisentraut and I did a major shakedown run on a battle scar'd bike circa 1958.
Of all things, I didn't bother to data log or take pics but it was a just an awesome 65 mile route laid out by Dave. The overcast, pleasant rain was welcoming. We did have some strong stormfront winds for a short while that if you came out of the tree lined roads at fast descent speed, could be a surprise and could blow one out from under.
The route is super for road cycling - assuming one loves climbs, rewarding descents, sweepers, clean roads with virtually no traffic. One road is aptly named 'Roller Coaster'. I waited at the top just to observe iab drop in. Hillarious. Gravity pulled him in and he disapeared for what seemed liked 5 seconds, then he appears in the distance for the next roller, and so forth. Maybe the wind was just right, but could also hear his freewheel well past an 1/8th mile.
Awesome ride and only wish to have more time to stay up there but was rushed to squeeze the time in and get back. Thank you Dave for the invite. And Larry, have a safe trip back.

Sounds like great fun on excellent cycling roads. I got spousally committed to something else. Having been gone biking last weekend made it a tough bargain.
I'd have liked to see those three machines negotiating the terrain.

^Chrome- Mister iab picked a fun, fun route. I get a bit burned out riding in the plains with artificial hill's so its a treat for me on the real rollers. The bike I was riding is capable but have some tweaking to do. I'm a bit edgy about pushing the fragile (and super rare) crank on it, but to experience this vintage stuff is irresistible. After Saturday's ride, kind of crazy but I'm thinking its the bike I'll take on the DD in August.
As for your ride next weekend up North, still iffy. Really would love to do it. However, the ms. is getting edgy with my sneaking away bike rides plus there's a rather significant car club event all this week (to the 27th) in French Lick, IN. Being that close, will probably do that instead.

Rode my Rush along the greenway, through the city and out to the Veteran's cemetery to see my Folks. First Father's Day with him not around. High temps and humidity.
Still a good time to think and reflect on our relationship and the one I am still building with my young son.

Summer solstice/ father's day
Wisconsin looks very nice indeed!
I rode a couple of short rides this weekend; 33 yesterday and 31 today.
The remnants of tropical storm Bill blew in last night, but after some heavy rain it cleared up this afternoon, so I got out for an unexpected ride.
Moto gr at the horseshoe dam
Man I love this bike!

Speaking of Larry, I need his UserID to see if he wants to make somewhat the same trip in August....

Same place I always ride...or very often do. Short loop in East Vancouver, including a stretch by the port on Burrard Inlet, that I typically ride several times a week when time is short but a little (scenic) ride is desired.
Today, though, was special for being the Mercian's first trip out of the basement this summer:
Beautiful British Columbia...with a little British steel in foreground.

I rode around my neighborhood and in the park nearby on my maiden voyage of my 1971 Raleigh Twenty folding bike! I'm having fun learning about it and overhauling. My shakeout ride was around 3 miles or so. I realize that's not much of a "shake out", but it was fun and I think I smiled the whole time.

^ Are those 650C wheels or is the "guy from Leavenworth" just huge?
