Having fun in the sun at Adobe Dam Regional Park:

First ride since getting into town. I really made the right decision bringing down the MTB vice road bike this visit.

I think is my favorite thread on here, really nice pictures. I have zero talent with a camera, and can't compete with a lot of these, but it's not really a competition, right? My humble offerings from todays "day before the solstice" ride. I think I found the right combination of layers for the 30's, I was comfortable for the most part. Last ride before the Metro Boston Boxing Day ride next Saturday.

Nice photos. Snow and cold all over the ground here. The indoor training is so completely boring that I've had a hard time motivating myself so have been out on a few walks/hikes and in the gym with the weights. I am sensing some snowshoes in the near future to get a little more exercise.

jimmuller 12-20-15 08:01 PM

otg, great pics. That road looks so inviting. scozim, you need x-c skis for a real aerobic workout! Easier on the legs than snowshoes too.

Tried x-c skis in the past, Jim. Horrible at it and never got the hang of it.

It's worth making the effort! Two pics from last February, Bretton Woods, NH, my sweetie and me. Um, it was 5 below when we took those pics. Awesome experience. But not to be trifled with.

Jim, I agree that skiing is the proper winter activity. Skiing is so much like cycling in the sense that you can use the old wooden boards and go off trail on a cold day for the enjoyable scenery, or you can put on your skate skis and get a whale of an aerobic workout. It's been awhile since we've had much snow for skiing, so I went biking today. Took lots of pictures so shared a few others in the fall ride thread (last chance up until 10pm tonight).

Rode the Red Cedar river trail. A 30 mile out and back ride on the drop bar MTB Croll. The trail got softer the farther out I got, and was downright muddy toward the turning point. Really happy I opted for the Croll instead of the cross bike, needed the float. The Croll needs a bath. A few photos.

At the turn, the bridge over the Chippewa River.

Nice pics @ChromeMolly. The Croll looks like a fun bike.

jimmuller 12-21-15 07:28 PM

Pretty cool! Great quarry pics.

It has been way too warm here for snow, this being about the southern edge of the snow belt of course. Hit 50F today.

I'm still commuting by bike most days. Have had a few reasons not to lately. My office had a party on Friday and I was asked to bring in my guitar and play some songs. Of course someone brought a cold into the office a few weeks ago, probably from one the kids, then spread it around. It finally hit me middle of last week, and wouldn't you know, my band had a concert Sunday (yesterday) afternoon. Fortunately the cold didn't go into my throat or chest so the show went okay. I'm about over it now. But my body is tired and sore. When I wake up tomorrow (praying that I will, of course), I'll check the weather and decided then whether to ride or drive. I hate driving to work.

I'm visiting in Monterey for a couple days with family. Got up early and left just before a late sunrise to squeeze in a ride before the slugabeds stirred. Headed out along the coast, following a beautiful and exclusive (they charge a toll to kept the undesirables out) stretch of road known as "the 17-mile drive" through Carmel and the Pebble Beach Golf Course. A bit of rain and wind, but I was prepared for it.

http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...psjj3v34fu.jpg

Stopped for a quick picture of the Custom House, 1827, the oldest government building in California.

Across from the Custom House is the old Fisherman's Wharf at Monterey, decked out for the holidays:

Past Monterey and south along the coast toward Carmel.

As per the suggestion of @letenn, I rode Trail 100 in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve today. I had fun, but ended up with a pretty sore back (it was kinda sore before I started, just more so now). Hopefully tomorrow it'll be better.

Anyway, it was a little too much (in some areas) for this MTB novice. I persevered, but I did this more than once today:

Nice bike, nice bar end plugs. However, speaking as a former sailor, the right one should be green.

I thought every day in Seattle was the wettest on record. You are talking about the Seattle in the PNW, right?

We're having temperatures in the 60's, maybe hitting 70 tomorrow. That's just plain wrong.

Thanks for the beautiful Peninsula pics, Gaucho.
DD, nice that you have a photographer accompanying you to photograph your exploits. :)

@pressed001 - Thanks! I've really put a lot of thought and love into this bike. Changing components and trying to keep it "era" specific as much as possible. The wheels, which I made are 700c, down from 27". I kept the original hubs though.

Picked up a Miyata yesterday!

Given a quarter inch coating of ice on the trails, the OT bike was the only choice I could make today. None of my C&V rides can handle bumpy ice, and even this rig slid out from under me a few times today (pre-eggnog). Though it was a short ride, it helped burn off some of the holiday cheer.

We took the tandem out for 43.7 miles today, just a quick pop out to Carlisle for lunch. Of course Fern's was closed. The lights were on but nobody was home. While we sat there eating our lunch a dozen and a half bikes went by but none stopped. Um, that's 18 bikes, not 12 1/2 bikes. :D

On our return we took a short break at the Lowell Rd boat ramp on the Concord River. I took an artsy pic and my sweetie had to take one of me. The river and the roads were quiet today.

26 mile ride on my favorite bike path in Des Moines. Good views, nice rollers, and a lot of solitude. There was lots of snow and the bike gunked up pretty good. Even the bmx pedals iced up good which made pedaling interesting, :). The derailleurs crapped up pretty fast as well. I lost the small ring first, then the big. The rear derailleur iced up fast and complained the whole way. The brakes worked . . . sometimes, :). Great day to be on a vintage mtb; mine is a 1992 trek 950:

Jim, I'm not seeing your pictures, just black "x"s. Looking forward to tomorrow's ride. I was going to bring the Super Sport, but I found it with a flat this morning getting ready for a Christmas ride. Ended up taking the Trek. I hope the weather is half as nice tomorrow as it was today.
