I've only dealt with them the one time, but I was impressed. I brought the wheels up there to get some advice on tires. I was talking about it with a younger guy working there when Andrew just took one of the wheels in the back and started checking it over and telling me all about the make and the gears. He offered some good advice and convinced me to have him put on new tires, and a new set of gears, and have it ready in 90 minutes. They're the best so how could I say no. Great place to do business with.

It was 58 degrees in Chicago today, so I cracked off a 45-miler up the North Shore.

Sunday was a dreary day here in Saint Paul. I rode Velo de Ville down to the river - all roads here lead to the river at some point, it seems... But since the sky was grey and the lighting was so drab, I decided to get a little bit artsy.

57 here so got out for a short ride. Power plant not far from me and I felt bad for these pine trees probably to big to sell as Christmas tees. Weather man calling for snow in the comming days.

Hardening off....
It's never easy but I KNOW that the best way to harden myself against the cold, to " thicken the blood", is to just get out there and do it! Yesterday was my picnic day - the one day a week I pack a simple lunch and go ride 40 to 60 miles, stopping somewhere to relax and eat that lunch. Cold as it was, iced up as the windshield was, I pressed on. The usual struggle to choose the ride had the Raleigh win out over the Crescent, this time. When I pushed off in Oaks, PA, it was 33 degF and I wondered if I'd brought the right layers. Low fog did not support the sunny forecast but press on I did, admiring that British chrome. Down the SRT to the Sullivan bridge then CCW around the trail that loops VF Nat'l Park.
I swooped by General Washington's HQ to ensure it was still there, then back up the hill to the Inner Defence Line Road. From the west, the first stretch of that road is a WICKED hill, an artery blower, heart attack, call the First responders type hill. But this 66 yr old fart got up it ok with no need to use the phone. It was the MK IV, not me. Good bike. Funny how it no longer felt so cold after that. Actually my layers worked out just great thru the day (42.@& miles), adjusting to the temps nicely. We linked on over to the Chester Valley Trail then blasted out to Exton with a stop at Exton Park for my picnic. The Raleigh rested from the load of two water bottles. Around here the parks are shutting down the water fountains for the winter so we have to carry two full bottles on long rides, no resupply anywhere. The return was as lovely as the trip outbound. Well into the 40's by the time I hung the Pro back on the car. Great day and I'm a bit more hardened for winter. Good timing. As has been mentioned above, a cold front is moving in and temps will not be uppa da 30s for a week or so. Got to keep riding thru it though. No snow here yet. No salted roads yet. |

Is no one riding lately? I'm missing the great photos and ride accounts. But, maybe the post about getting hardened to the cold is telling. Personally, my fingers have been too cold on my commutes to and from for me to really want to stop and snap any pictures.

Probably done for the year here in Chicago. We had a nice extended Fall, but high temps are in the 30s now. If I ride below 40 degrees, I get nasty bronchitis.

After three straight days of steady rain, and a snow dusting last night, today is supposed to be decent. High should approach 45*F here and it looks like a ride is happening this afternoon. Digging out my base layer top and other things now.

It finally got "cold" (by our standards) last week, but this morning was unexpectedly warm, about 60°.
