It was a misty ride in the forest yesterday. But, the sky hinted through.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b777e6c437.jpg I made it up to Dimple Hill and was rewarded with a view of the mist I have climbed above, thanks to the stagnant air we've had for a few days. Finally! 8 days of sun forecast for the Puget Sound starting Friday, the most since September. Perfect wool sweater weather with temps in the upper 40s. Woohoo!

Took a ferry ride yesterday to SF and rode back around to Richmond. Fog was thick until Sausalito. Picture with Angel Island in background. Warmed up nicely.

Took the Robust for a ten mile shakedown ride today.
The weather was cool, calm and a little dreary. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...28b63d3472.jpg The no hands test was uneventful. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ecb245a599.jpg Another test. At least with one hand on the bars and the other trying to hold a camera level and steady enough for a picture. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...82f98bf6b3.jpg My favorite bit of this loop, the roads along the Kromme Mijdrecht river. The one on the other side is narrower and winds even more than this one. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e75c43e2cc.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...883b263b90.jpg Crossing the river again before heading home. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...82db8bbbe6.jpg |
My local riding buddy and I decided to suck it up and head out into the cold for a few hours. Around 25F when I left and 35F when I returned but calm winds and nice sun made it quite tolerable. I was on a new build: a 650b conversion of an ‘85 Raleigh USA Grand Prix, purchased as a frameset from @johnnyace. It’s a very nice rider, just a bit over 22 lbs as built including bottle cages and pedals.

I did a 20 something mile ride around London today. Saw a new mural at Battersea and a green greenhouse...
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1272921b11.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...22b81b3e76.jpg ...before heading into central London and some touristy spots such as Piccadilly Circus... https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c7323cc900.jpg ...and Leicester Square with its lion's guarding Nelson's Column, with the 4th Plinth in the background. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8a5a57a7bc.jpg I wonder sometimes how many cameras I pass during the course of my cycle rides around the capital, we are amongst the most monitored people on earth I think. I cycle many 1000's of miles around the city each year, so I'm caught on camera more than most. The latest released figures from 2020/21 reveal there is now 1 CCTV camera for every 13 people, meaning there are about 691,000 CCTV cameras in London, and the average Londoner is caught on camera 300 times a day. Just imagine how many millions of glamourous shots a year there are of us picking our noses and scratching our undercarriages:lol: It seems the walls have ears and eyes are everywhere, but I was particularly taken by these 2 sets of peepers I saw today that really intensified the feeling of being watched as I was posing my bike for pics. The first set in are Camden and the second set in Finsbury Park. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c4d440afed.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3278fa6514.jpg |
Nice weather today n the 40's with snow on the trails and side roads. Patched a flat and tire on the Schwinn Mesa GSX pretty soon I will have to invest in some tires and tubes for this Clunker challenge bike has several patches on the tube and a couple on the inside of the rear tire. Went a couple of miles on the side roads and took the fresh powdery bike trail back.

It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day in the SF Bay Area, with temps in the mid-60s and almost no wind. I got in a nice 30+ miles on my '85 De Rosa. I headed out through the UC Berkeley campus, before climbing Tunnel Rd. to Skyline Rd. and then descending Snake Road into Montclair, winding through Piedmont back toward the flats.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...54af785f_k.jpg Next, I headed toward Lake Merritt in Oakland. I made a loop around the lake. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e6572b8b_k.jpg After circling the lake, I headed toward the bay and took a little diversion on the Bay Bridge, which is accessible by bike for the first portion of the span until Treasure Island, before turning around. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d4d8303b_k.jpg Finally, I stopped by the loal co-op near the Berkeley Aquatic Park, in the hopes of finding a lightly used 74bcd chainring, but, alas, it was closed on a account of the omicron surge. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d924f142_k.jpg |
Valley riding today. Lots of rollers.

39 cms. And yes, I like them. :)
38s and skinny tires on smooth tarmac in a large frame can feel really dialed-in on a fast cruzin day. non-fixie - your bar wrap looks vintage Benotto -almost - can you share if otherwise? https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c3c6aa9ee.jpeg |

Talked into support role for a friend wanting to do Diablo. Not a climber but made it to the junction. Couldn't ask for a nicer day.

That's a beautiful build, nlerner! What are you using for a drivetrain? It looks like you have quite a wide spacing on the front. Also what are those comfortable looking tires? BTW, I totally agree with you about riding in 25-35 degree weather..as long as there is little wind it can be ideal!

Thanks! Drivetrain is a Stronglight Impact compact double crankset (50/34t) with Shimergo setup: Campy Veloce 10-speed brifters, Shimano XTR RD, and Shimano 8-speed cassette with a 32-t big cog, iirc. Tires are 650b x 38mm Compass rear and Gran Bois front. Clearance between the chai stays is tight but do-able. If I dimple them, I could likely fit 42mm tires, which would be interesting.

Another trial ride today on the Robust, just short of 10 miles.
It was one of those days without any weather. Not cold, not warm, not light, not dark, no sun, no clouds, no wind. Nothing. Days like these always feel like someone, somewhere, forgot to flip a switch in the morning. Truman Show delusion, probably. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3f48c7dc1e.jpg Made a short stop at one of the more intriguing shops in my area. They sell pajamas and model cars. The little boy in me finds that combination totally logical. :) https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1bc040bddd.jpg |
