Would love to see a pic of the Raleigh - before and after shots......

Not really C or V, but it's my Catch of the Day. $10 on Craigslist from a young woman who was moving out of town soon. Appears to be a mid 90s model. One of the cantilever straddle cables was unhooked, but other than that I have only a few stickers to complain about. Wheelset is in great shape. This is the first time I've seen a tubing sticker that says Cr-Mo AND Hi Tensile on the same sticker :lol:

1992 Trek 2300. 56cm. Full Ultegra 600. Very decent condition. Some of the bolts show rust. A pair of blue tires will make this bike shines!

Hi all, I'm new here (please be gentle), I LOVE the 79 raleigh professional with campy parts. Cant believe it was a tenner.

I found a Holdsworth 'special' dumped in the street the other day. I didnt know anything about bikes and still really dont. I think its from 84/5 (judging by their catalogues) but the suntour front derailleur seems much older. Its reynolds tubes, I think evrything is original except the fact there are shimano 105 levers and rear derailleur. I don't know if they could be original, I bought some suntour '84 tension levers on ebay just in case, would that be right? Im sort of under the impression its not a bad bike but sheldon brown seems to not be that impressed by them, but what does he know! lol. The chain was rusted to ruin and immoveable, the wheels were detached and the QR rods were too tight to put them on in the street (and locked shut till I got home). Saddle -brooks, but rotted through and moldy, chucked it, smelled like the owner crapped on it . Brake levers-universal, turd? It might sound like I know what i'm talking about, I really don't since ive only been reading about bikes for the last week. Mostly on Sheldon Brown (RIP), guy was a genius.

I want to get it back to original condition, anyone have some ideas? I'm a novice and pretty clueless.

Welcome to the c&v BF, Herbster - There are plenty of very knowledgeable folks here willing and able to guide you - but I'd make two suggestions to help them along:
1) Post pictures! -It really helps
2) Then re-Post your appeal in a separate dedicated thread (it will get sort of buried here in this "Saved from the dump" thread. )

I should have put this in the thread a while ago....added this Vitus 979 w/ Dura Ace + some not-so-common bar end grip shifters..rides great...a local Ebay listing where the seller had snatched it out of a church rummage sale for probably something stupid like $20....no worries, though, it's a keeper.

I had a really similar 1981 Schwinn Traveler. I upgraded it with a set of donor alloy wheels, and it moved on to another home. On mine, the paint was faded quite a bit. It gave the bike a little "patina".

Picked up a 1981 Park PRS-1 work stand with a nice 50lbs base plate that it bolts to for a very reasonable $50.

Recent purchase for well under $20. Double butted chrome moly frame and Shimano brakes and gears, alloy rims with quick release hubs. Tires and brake pads are like new...if not new. I have a few accessories I want to add to it...rear rack, bag, cycle computer, and water bottle cage. It's been awhile since Lady Cycleheimer has had a road bike. She immediately took notice of the components on this one, and is looking forward to riding it. On level terrain, she can probably cover 30 to 40 miles without a problem. Her gym membership has gone to good use! :thumb:

I found this '72 Sports yesterday, the B72 it came with was toast, so I swapped it out with this one for a ride to the park... Has a nice-looking set of Dunlop tires, but unfortunately the rear is ready to burst.

I'm going to look at a Hercules 3-speed today, MEN's model! I've been wanting to own a men's English three-speed for the longest time.

watchout...I did the same thing recently (in the Robin Hood variety) and it was hard to resist.

So today I went to my uncles, I got A ride up there from work so my crummy winter beater mountain bike was loaded in the van. however! They had no paved roads so a 3 speed was useless. I traded my crummy bike for a Early 70's Supercycle 3 speed. Raleigh made. it's a nice blue with chrome chain guard and fenders. looks just like a Raleigh Sports. pictures will come tomorow. oh it's also in awesome shape.

Here it is. the front wheel is off and not shown. tires are good and gold air still, hub says 1972.

I've never heard of those. Do you twist them?

They are original Sram GripShifts, normally used on the ends of triathlon aero bars, but they work fine as bar end shifters too. I am quite partial to them and have them in 7 and 8 speed versions on a couple of my bikes.

The only documentation I could find on them was that apparently Cannondale spec'd them for a year or two on their touring bikes. I really haven't put enough miles/time on the bike to know yet what my opinion is. I do know they're adjusted correctly and work fine.

I picked up an un-matched set of Shimano STI controls for $10. The left is an older 105 triple and the right is a 7 speed RSX. The hoods are both in very good shape, so I figured they were worth the price just for that.

They were being sold by someone who was using them as brake levers on a fixed gear (they had no 'clicks') and he had switched from drop bars to bullhorns and had no more use for them. A liberal dousing in WD-40, working the levers and then letting it sit for a few days and working the levers some more this evening and there are now a full set of 'clicks' coming from each control.

Now to pick which bike to put them on....

Ahh, I was tempted by those. I had a hunch the WD-40 trick would work, glad to hear that it did.

Here's an old Lygie I scored from the old man a few weeks back. He bought it new back in '74/'75 and rode it all through college. No Campy stuff, but a great Sugiono crank set and Suntour V-GTelux derailler. Since it's my turn to put a few miles on it, I'm giving it the proper treatment and a thorough makeover.

Complete tear-down, strip, primer, paint (original color) with a few personal touches added.
