I didn't find to much yard sailing this weekend in the way of bicycles, but I scored about a $1000 worth of power tools from a builder that was moving for $80. I found a Mongoose BMX that was hardly ridden and has a little surface rust in the trash and I traded a gas scooter that I paid $20 for a Bianchi Main Street ,It looks like one of their cheaper bikes but everything works good and it will just need a service. It has lower end Suntour components, Dia Compe canti brakes and Araya wide rims in 700c.

Was volunteering at the coop on Saturday and hooked up with a fellow collector... we had a nice chat about old bikes and obscure parts and he went home and returned with 3 sets of EA1 tyres for my Raleigh, a pair of 27 inch racing tyres (Clement !), and brought a box full of ancient derailleurs for show and tell.
This was stuff most of us will only see in pictures and on CV (he contributes there) and he said that I should pop by and see his Cambio Corsa equipped bicycle and his collection of vintage CCM racing bikes that date back to the 30's. If anyone has used that little CCM date code sheet scan to identify an old CCM you can thank him as he was the one who collected the data from old CCM tech manuals and compiled the list. I will be bringing my camera when I stop by his bike museum. |

Picked up another bike tonight. 1972 (so the hub says) Raleigh Sports. Not quite as nice shape as my green 76 Sports so this one will become my bad weather city bike. I've never seen a white Sports before, I really like it.

I scored a 600AX brake caliper, which is unfortunately missing a few bits, but hopefully i'll be able to put it to use! Those early aero parts are beautiful.

The bike faerie brought me this today... stripped off a bunch of craptastic parts and installed some shiny Rigida wheels I had kicking around and figure it will make a nice townie.

I found this bike at the flea market. The Alpin was their flagship touring bike. You see it as bought, uncleaned. It has some very sturdy aluminum fenders.

Stunning Velo-Sport! That's a great find

cobrabyte - Sansin made those Sunshine hubs and used "Sunshine" as a brand name before marketing their hubs under their own name... Sansin also made Suntour's hubs.
They are beautifully made and of very good quality. I really like this set due to the high flanges and they are marked Suntour :) |
Not C&V.... or bicycle related.... but a VERY exciting day for me!

The customer who warrantied his got a new Specialized Roubaix frame. They don't fix the old frames. I don't think they were even UV treating the carbon they made then, so I'd guess they all sustain sun damage eventually if they're getting ridden at all. The catch is that you ONLY get the frame and fork; you still have to buy a component group and wheels for it.

I thought they hung it up after the last album or was that just Touring?

Hey mainducoyote - If you didn't already - you need to check out this thread from Ricohman. - it's just like your bike. Flea market ? Just unbelievable!

Thursday morning garage saling is the best. I picked up this Huffy Ultima 10 speed women's bicycle for my gf, who wants more of a road bike and loves retro bikes.

No offense, but that isn't worth...anything, really. At least get a Varsity...
Re: the Specialized return policy...anyone know if there's a way to get a Raleigh Technium frame replaced? The seat tube is separating from the BB shell on mine. |
A Raleigh Touring 18 with a nice early Deore group appeared on CL earlier in the week for $60 and I spent much of a day trying to get in touch with the seller who wouldn't answer his phone. Bad move probably, he pulled the ad and relisted it for $100 :notamused:
He finally called me back and I was bummed to learn that he lived on the beach, but I went to look at it anyway. It turned out to be a rusty basket case, but I did buy this nice '78 Trek TX300 for less than he was asking for the Raleigh: http://lh3.ggpht.com/_TIeBxBH6dXI/S9...0/tx300_01.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/_TIeBxBH6dXI/S9...0/tx300_02.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/_TIeBxBH6dXI/S9...0/tx300_03.jpg Best of all, there is really no evidence that it lived in that corrosive environment! |

Good finds Bob, I like the vintage MTB's. Yes I would say they are more often abused than road bikes, often being left out in the weather, and often never adjusted for taken care of in any way. I would guess the cranks were tight from oxidation and neglect, maybe. Did the GT have any markings for model or was it pretty obviously low end? I have a soft spot for GT, though I've rarely found anything above their lowest offerings.
The serial number is H3J07840. I think it is a 90's that was purple and has Shimano STX components. Can you help identify? Thanks. |
