It has tricolor 600 and a tange falcon headset. The old Bridgestone catalogs on Sheldon's site are so great! as a road biker, you just have to love being elitist when you pull on your spandex. The old catalogs are just that. I have given up on hoarding brifters, so these will be on ebay.

Well... the '37 Raleigh has yet to appear but my friend did bring me another bike from 1963 that also belonged to her grandfather and it too is English and was made by Raleigh.

It has some patina to spare...

I have already replaced the cables and housings, changed out the rear cog for a bigger one, and installed a fresh chain and a nice looking chain guard... after giving the hub a sip of oil I took it out for a ride and it rolls straight and true and is in excellent mechanical condition.

And nothing was seized which speaks to a bike that looks scruffy but was well maintained... and ridden a lot if you look at the pedals.

yeah i had to use a ton of solvent to de-gunk the brifters, and the drivetrain is pretty trashed.. but for $25 i sure wasn't complaining. it even fits me!

Crank rings are not horrible price.
You will have problems out of those shifters again. The 8 speed are not horrible to disassemble enough to clean them better.
Loosen the set screw on the pivot pin and drive the pivot out to get the actual lever out of the body. There is a spring in there so pay attention to who it goes in.

Now the Allen bolt on the front needs to come off. There is a return spring under it. Pay attention to the orientation of the spring and any spacers. On assembly you will line up the holes the spring catches on and then need to turn it while holding your tongue just right to get that outer cover back on.
push the small lever over and there is a Philips head screw. The whole assembly will now put out of the brake lever and expose the workings.

Soak it in carberator cleaner and flush it with brake cleaner and get all the little pawls freed up. Oil up the pawls with machine oil (3in1). light grease where they ride on the cams. Work some machine oil in between anything that moves. Should be fine.

If they are on the bike you will have to flip the bike over to see the set screw. It is Allen head and set into the body.
When it cools down that grease will thicken up and that's when you will have the problem come back. The pawl that causes most of the problem you cant get a straight shot at with them assembled.

I ran across an interesting bike in my wife size. Its a Grant Peterson era 1992 (think) Bridgestone XO-2. This was sold as a 26 inch wheel road bike with 1.4inch Richie Tom Slick tires. The geometry is more road/touring then Mountain. full set of braze ons except mid fork. The frame is 43cm seat post and 51cm top tube. It came with Dirt drops as best I can tell despite Sheldon say most of the XO bikes coming with Mustache bars.

Its a bit beat up but its the frame that counts. Its missing its original Dirt drops but It had a set of Bull Moose bars on it and a Regal Girraldi saddle. I think the rims are original and it has a brand spanking new set of Kenda Kwest tires on it. Somebody was trying to convert it to single speed and laced the back wheel up to a mid 80's Dura Ace threaded hub. That was a neat find.

I have this same bicycle, but in a royal blue colorway. I think it is form 1979. I have it as a singlespeed, as my main commuter for summer and winter (extra wheelset with studs). I really like its ride, but wish it had a few more braze-ones. My rear rack is held on through the brake stay and no rear fender at the moment.

The original rear rack you have on there scared me because of the six bolts holding it together, I was afraid it would collapse under any weight. Enjoy the ride though!

Another lucky find from the dump, today. Needs a bit of work but this time I had the good sense to put air in the tires and make sure it tracked right. Last time I had to do a great amount of work before I had a successful ride on a bike I bought at a garage sale.
This one has a bent small chainring which I think I can fix but otherwise nothing serious.
As you can see whoever owned this one certainly could not be considered guilty of over-lubricating the chain.

Nertz!!!!! just missed out on a nice late 80's Schwinn Prelude for $50 at a rummage sale. It had a Turbo saddle and some other nice upgraded parts. Another guy got to it 5 seconds before me. Oh yeah, it was my size and red.

The bars were swapped out on that XO-2. I have one and they came with moustache bars, Deore thumb shifters and mountain grips and brake levers.

Scored a pretty much mint Norco road bike today... with a 47 cm frame in what is pretty close to Celeste and white.

But the cool part... because I did not know Norco made these.

It is a Terry like model with a 700c rear and 520 front wheel, Tange Infinity frame, and Shimano light action 6 speed.

One little girl is going to be so happy when she sees her new road / touring bike.

The crank is set up as a 42/50 double but can be fitted as a triple if need be and I swapped out the 13-24 block for a 14 -28.

So, guy posted up this trek 610 with pics which show Reynolds 531 and shimano 600 grouppo:

i'm like.. well sure i'll name my offer lol..i email him an hour after he posts it with a low ball $20 offer and ask how much he was thinking.. 3 hours later i hadn't gotten a reply so I email again and tell him if i was too low please let me know what he thinks is fair

That was last night.. then today in the afternoon i havent heard back, so i figure he's like "screw that low ******".. so i email from a second acct! this time I don't make a specific offer, just ask to come look at it so i can make an offer.

So a little bit later i get a reply back to my lowball offer, seller is asking for $100, which I immediately accept as soon as i read it, (about 30 mins after he sent it). he didn't give a phone # so I'm clicking my refresh in gmail every 5 minutes, but no reply....

About hour and a half later, the second account gets an email.. now the seller has multiple offers for over $100 and wants $180 or best offer! I politely tell him i could only offer around $100 and thank him for his time. Even $100 was a bit more than I should spend but I figure the frame alone is worth that so I could make my money back.

So.. i still hadn't gotten a response to the first account, and knowing what I know from the 2nd account, I figure he's decided to not sell it for $100. As a last ditch attempt, I play the old "truth gambit" and send an email.. I say that I'm sure he will get offers for more than $100, but I can only pay $100 and could really use the parts for my bike build. (which is sorta true.. I plan on using the grouppo on my GT force since i hate the brifters that came on it) I then tell him the bike would probably be worth around $400 with the wheels, depending on condition and how much patience he has. The email was one part "I'm the honest guy, sell it to me please" and one part "if i'm not gonna get it for cheap, NO ONE IS!"

At this point I figure I'm not going to get the bike.. and actually saw another bike that interested me to use for parts. It wasn't nearly as sweet of a deal, but I was really close to calling this other person, and then my phone rings.. it's the guy with the trek saying he will sell it for $100!

it's now sitting in my front room, w00t! 49cm, way too small for me, but very nice frame that i will strip the parts from and either build up with shimano rsx grouppo from my $25 GT Force, or just sell the frame to make my $ back
