My most recent finds include a good condition Raleigh Sportif from a thirft store and Nishiki Bravo mountain bike from the neighbors trash. Neither needs much to be road worthy. Both should clean up and be quick sellers come spring.

I just got a 77 raleigh grand prix last week from the junkyard I work at. The boss gave it to me for $3.10. I had to take it apart to get it in my trunk though. Just needed some tlc. I took it for a quick 5 mile run last night and it's not a bad bike. Other than the color. Metallic brown? Who's idea was that?

We just got in an early 60s schwinn today. No wheels, but the rest of it is really nice. I'm gunna grab it Monday.

If I lived anywhere near you, I would have bought that Trek and Nishiki as soon as you were ready to sell them!

Picked up a typical 1990 or 1991 Schwinn Woodlands donor bike at a garage sale today. Has one good tire, good cromoly frame, good biopace MTB crankset, FD and RD, and wheels. Missing some brake parts and nothing special to begin with. But I needed the crankset, RD, and a tire, so the value is there. Might have to combine it with my other Giant donor MTB.

If I'm reading the SN right, then I've just picked up a 84 770 at a garage sale for $70.

Got full Campy SR on it, but it's mysteriously missing all of the decals except the Trek one. This bike has just surface rust on the components and looks like whoever owned it either road very little or just took great care of it.
Cant wait to get her cleaned up.

Yea, the lady I bought it off of just said that her x-boyfriend was a racer and just left the bike behind when they broke up. I was freaking out when doing the deal, just waiting for some guy to come up and offer her $400 or something.

I drove 5.5 hours round trip for this catch. I drove about 90mph, pumping my fist the whole way in excitement. BTW, that Trek is extremely awesome.

This frame was made by Mike Melton in Delaware, Ohio. It came with a Tange Levin headset, a sugino bottom bracket, Sugino AT triple crankset and Suntour bar end shifters. P.S. this was the picture that the seller sent me

Yeah it seems like a really nice crank, he even gave me extra sugino chain rings for it. BTW, the seller was a very very cool guy. I stayed around and talked to him for about 1.5 hours and dug through all of his old cycling stuff. He was a great guy, sad thing was that he was selling because his recent surgeries prevent him from riding. He said he is in the market for a recumbent so he can get back to riding.

Did the x-boyfriend also leave behind a nice, older vette or fishing boat by any chance? Just curious ;)

Terrific catch on the Trek. Some of the early Treks did not have the model number on them. But you did the right thing, look up the serial number and you will know the model. My 1983 520 does not have the model number anywhere, my 1980 412 doesn't either. The 1983 620 only showed the model number on the chainstay guard.

Vintage Trek website is a frekin gold mine of info. To be honest, I'm not that well versed on Treks and wouldnt have been able to tell a 770 from a gas pipe junker, but when I saw the full Campy set up,,,,well...:innocent:

So far I've got her stripped down to the frame, all the components are cleaned up real nice and I should have the lube job done by tomorrow. If I get at it early enough I'll be riding her by tomorrow.:thumb:

My 1983 560 has a chainstay guard model number as well.,,,,BD

one of the tricks with old treks is they didn't make gas pipe junkers.

Nice! It looks like it's been repainted; that wasn't a stock color in 1984.

I built a lot of those frames; always enjoyed working on them.
