I built a lot of those frames; always enjoyed working on them.

Yea, that thought hit me right when I went to bed last night. I couldnt find that damn color in any of the books. Kinda worried me that it would hurt the value, but I like it better than the green it should be.

I'll post some before and afters when she's all together.:thumb:

I forgot all about this thread. I took home another abandoned bike yesterday and had dump-diver's remorse and called a guy to come get 4 bikes out of my basement. Guess I can start cruising for more bikes again!

Well I've been away for quite awhile but finally had a decent Catch of the Day. A 1989 Peugeot 531 Altus. I don't know a thing about this bike so maybe someone can help me out. Anyways full 531 frameset with a full Shimano 105 Gruppo and nice Mavic rims. Found it at a Goodwill but will flipping it as it's a 64cm. Anyways a beautiful bike because my pics don't do it justice.

That thing'll fetch a nice amount.

+1 Thats one nice Peugeot! You will do well on that flip. Around here, Peugeots sell quick, seems like buyers just believe they are a step above/better than other bikes from that era. I have one more Peugeot to flip myself.

I got this AD SLE at a local thrift. I can't decide what to do with it though. It has NO braze-on's but I think I'd rather keep it original than send it off to hipster heaven.

Ted Williams Free Spirit

Scored this one off the Kansas City CL this weekend and a fellow BF member is driving an hour each way to pick it up, haul it back to his house and box it up for shipping to me here in Nebraska. It was made for Sears by Puch in the early 70's, with a Reynolds 531 frame and fork, Brooks saddle, Shimano Crane on the rear, a Titilist on the front and I can't quite tell if that's a Sugino Maxy crankset under the kewl-looking chainguard; plus it's got new tires, the generator and both lights work, all for $75 plus an extra love for the assistance of ebr898.

Dang, that is in nice shape, the Brooks looks unridden.

Good on ebr898 for doing so much leg-work, do we have a network here on C&V for this sort of thing? I packed up and shipped a bike for a member here last year but he created a thread asking for help....

cycleheimer 02-23-09 04:33 PM

That looks like a new $100 Brooks saddle! The tires & brake pads look new also. Seller probably fixed it up to ride, and then found a new interest. No seasoned "flipper" would sell it with a new Brooks saddle.

+1, very awesome find. I agree probably not a veteran, the seat clamp is on backwards. Of course I was doing that about a year ago, so.....

Bike Purchase

I just got a Norco (Nishiki frame) Magnum SE for $20.00 , It is 12 speed, all Shimano 600 components, the tires still have a bit of life in them, Brooks saddle , everything seems in pretty good condition. I did not go out looking for a vintage bike , but it seems like a good deal after trying out $1000.00 - $1500.00 new bikes. John

Pics. Post some pics. :)

Wow, $20? Norco is a Canadian brand, post some pics ;)

rumrunn6 02-23-09 07:20 PM

there's something romantic about a generator light - mystical even - I remember having one 30 years ago - it was like a life line when everything else was beyond my control

Bioflamingo 02-23-09 08:01 PM

I just got a 90s Giant RS930 at the junkyard today. I have no clue if it's worth fixing, but I only gave a couple bucks for it so it doesn't matter. It's got all suntour components. All it needs is new break/shifting lines and tires/tubes. It didn't need anything until the guy that brought it in decided to try out his cable cutters on it.

A 3Rensho showed up on my local CL yesterday...guy was nice enough to hold it for me before someone else bought it.

It's a little too small for me...not sure if I should just keep it anyway, or try to sell it...

It seems to be one of the newer frames... Full 600 (tricolor), 8 SP STI. Seemed like a good find for $200...

Pics or it didn't happen. Frame/fork alone should be worth more than your purchase price BTW.

It's a 51 CM.

I see you have Charlotte listed as a location...I got the bike from a guy in Kannapolis, just north of CLT...

Apparently Cycles D'Oro up in Greensboro used to sell 3rensho...?

As for pics...I'll have to take one tomorrow.

I found a Sports in a junk pile somewhere. Then I found another. This one was the third.
I made one bike from the three and that's what my Mum rides now. I had stolen some Raleigh acorn nuts from this bike but, since it's a coaster and the odd colour out, I left it pretty much alone. I decided the other day, that I'd ride it so I dragged it up to the house, put some tubes in it and got everything unstuck. She's ready to roll now:thumb:
I'm not even going to dust it off! I want to ride it just like it is.:D
Incidentally, this bike probably belonged to the lady who cut my hair when I was a little boy. She died more then 20 years ago and the bike was forgotten. (I think it may have been forgotten before she died though).
The house was sold and the bike still sat. The new owner died last year from heart attack and his brothers came to clean out his stuff. They asked me to take some stuff including the old Raleigh.
I think I'll leave the bird poo on it so I remember the barn I found it in.
