Thanks! It's a nice compromise size of 22/20 I believe? I haven't measured it for sure. It has a Magura? rear hub brake, and Suntour XC "self energizing" canti's. Never seen anything like them. Where they
mount on the posts, they're an inch or so around. Some kind of cam or spring system I guess?,,,,BD

I think your post got upstaged by that evil horrible dude with his $10 Raleigh Pro - but these Fuji Touring series are really nice bikes too, Bikedued... I bought one like yours with every intention of flipping it - but so far, I have not been able to part with it.

More than likely the rear hub brake is an Arai. My Nashbar tandem has the same and also the Scott-Pedersen design Suntour cantis. Combined with Cool Stop shoes, very effective at bringing a heavy tandem to a stop in a hurry.

uber cheap CL find. the ad had poor picture, so i was hoping for a bit less rust...
any recommendations (keep in mind i have minimal bike fixer-upper tools)? i'm thinking i'll at least take the top tube decal off... though the clear coat is coming off with it.

can anyone ID? mid 80s, but cannot find it in the catalogs.

Check to see if the seat tube and stem are seized before going further
The fenders and rack are a bonus, but confuse identification from the catalogs. Teh other details though suggest an internally brazed entry level bike, circa 84.
Teh bits would clean up in an OA bath - the frame though is a worry if that is rust and not just grime.
If you proceed you'll need some essential tools to completely disassemble things- repack the bearings, add new tires/cables/hsgs.
It has the potential of being a nice riding/nice looking bike.

After searching google images, it is an Arai. Both years on Bikepedia list a Magura as the extra rear brake. Oh well, now I now:D. Yep, those are the same canti's it has. I am going to get
some Koolstop shoes for it, grey housings, and not so sure on wrap color now, hmmmm..,,,,BD

Soak the chrome pieces in vinegar.

There are specs of surface rust here and there on the frame... I've got some OA, so i'll be able to soak the parts I can get off (don't have a tool to take the crank off). The rims and folk have quite a bit of rust though.

Also, I put a new chain on it and it rode (though definitely needs new cable housings) - the one problem is that sometimes the rear cassette would engage and sometimes it would not (i.e., i would spin the pedals but would not move...) does anyone know the problem?

The fenders are in excellent condition though!

If your NEW chain is jumping the cogs on the OLD freewheel,( and you have sized the new chain correctly) likely you need to replace the old freewheel as well.
It is a cheap and easy repair to do - likely you can get a suitable $11 freewheel from Niagara like this http://www.niagaracycle.com/product_...oducts_id=5151 (and repack the rear wheel bearings while you are at it). If you don't have a tool to remove the old FW, your LBS might do it cheaply enough or even for free.

1985 Peugeot P6? The fenders and accessories are probably worth whatever you paid for it. Rigida steel rims?

thanks for the ID. i think that is correct on the rims. also i paid $10... maybe the fenders even put me ahead? I have set of steel rims that came off a varsity (that aren't rusty!) with the freewheel still on - i think i'll try to put those on for now.

Give the vinegar bath a try on those rusty chrome parts. You will be surprised at the resilts.

About 4 years ago my Mom called me to tell me her neighbors had thrown 2 vintage bikes away. 1 of them was a grey/silver Peugeot that was a bit trashy and the other was this Luders from Germany. To this day I am still trying to find out more about the bike.

All I know is that the manufacturer made 2 frames in the 70's; 1 for the German Cycling team for the 72 Munich Olympics and another 1 that I have yet to find any information on. I learned of this info from the only other person that I have seen or know of that owns a Luders, he is on Velospace and he is in France I believe.

You could very well be right, however, it doesn't feel like 25lbs when I curl it with my off arm.. .

The lightest Reynolds 531 bikes were about 21 lbs. Add a pound for that saddle, and the tires look 28ish and that's how I came up for the range. Great looking bike, btw, it looks in incredible shape

Yeah, the bicycle industry is just now getting to the point that a 10-12lb bike is feasible. The lightest bike I know of made before 2007-2008 was the 1947 Rene Herse technical trials bike, which weighed 7kg (15.4 lbs). If there was a lighter (non-track) bike made before or since then, I know nothing of it.

Here is my latest CL find. I haven't actually seen it in person yet. This is a picture my brother sent me. Right now I'm thinking it is an '82 311. But I'm not 100% sure.

About ~4ish months and many falls ago I came to be the rescuer of my first bike since I started tying my own shoes. I don't know much but apparently this is a pretty good find for what I paid for it. Also with the exception of lights, a new seat, and needing to tune the screws/position of the front derailer and removing the toe clips the bike is in the exact same condition as when I walked out of the thrift store with it. Whoever had it before me had respect for this thing.

According to the forum search function and a once-over when the local bike shop set up a tent at my apt complex it's what it says on the tin, a Kuwahara Aries:

Personally I'm going to strap one of these sunlite racks on the back and turn it into my cross-campus bike. The only downside I can think of is that I'm pretty sure it's incompatible with any form of front suspension, which would be nice to help with the potholes down here.

Shadowex3, looks like a 1 1/8" steerer. I have a new RockShox Judy with about a 5" threaded 1 1/8" sterrer, if that would fit your bike, PM me and we'll work something out.

Yesterday wandered into the local thrift to find this Gitane "Europeen". Looks and feels to be hi-ten, somewhere around 60cm, nice and tall, components are Simplex, front hub is Normandy with wingnuts, chromed steel rim, 27". Rear wheel might be a replacement, but still has the Simplex QR skewer. Rear hub too oxidized to read at moment with 27 x 1-1/4" alloy rim. Rear derailleur is gone. Clamped on downtube shifters. The prize is the Brooks saddle in great shape. The nice gentleman at the checkout counter said, "... oh I don't know, how's $5 sound?" I said, "sounds great". This bike sat outside for sometime, pretty oxidized paint, decals in good shape. Hard to say how much I would have paid, but $5 certainly seemed like the right price.
