I went to the bike flea market at the Trexlertown Velodrome today. I'd never been to one of their bike swaps before. It's huge, huge, huge. I went there only to sell, not to buy. But it didn't work out that way. I didn't manage to sell either of the bikes I brought. I almost bought a tandem in rough shape for $90, but I'm lucky I was a minute too late. It was a wreck.

I bought a lot of parts, mostly used, some new. Two flipflop hubs, brand new. A SunTour rear derailleur, some Tektro dual pivot calipers. Little stuff like that. I also got a trail-a-bike kind of thing, because I have good luck reselling those things.

Nice find BBM

BBM, I missed the name of the dump you got that from. Could you post it up again?

1984 Trek 420 Mixte. This made up for the wasted trip earlier in the week to look at a Centurion Mixte that I would not have taken for free. This will clean up nicely.

I love the rear brake routing on that. Upside down centerpull. Why couldn't all mixte builders do that? It just makes too much sense

Found this on CL tonight...

From what I can tell, it is a 1983 PSV 10... in my size (64CM)

Much better than having the brake housing come up and collect water. Every mixte I've ever gotten has had a seized rear brake cable.

With the stem and BB you have won half the battle already.

I'd look for a pair of hubs on eBay and new rims from VO. They are nice and shiny.
- Is that a 126 rear? These may fit.

I have a set of old tubular rims that might work, but I need to get them laced with new spokes. They are from an older model PX10 I think, but they might work for the time being.

I need to find derailers, shifters, brakes, bars...seat, post.... and on and on.

The Wife is not going to be happy.

Campagnolo Tipo rear hub, Weinmann Concave laced to a buttery smooth Sunshine hub, and some MEC touring panniers...

Sixty Fiver 10-03-10 11:32 PM

In other news... met a fellow with an early 70's Raleigh Professional in near mint condition that is just a little too tall for me.

Should be getting some pictures soon...

I got this Nishiki Modulus from the town dump. It needs tires, truing and a chain maybe bearing check-up.

Great dump find on the Nishiki. It is amazing what people throw in the trash...

You know...I've still never even seen a Paramount (of any pedigree) in person, and you bought three in two weeks!!

I actually watched that one and considered it, went for a pretty good price and the condition looks great from the pictures. (I don't know enough about that bike to say for sure, but it doesn't seem like there is a ton of flip room at that price point. I guess local pick up would a little. I believe it was a series 3 that sat here for weeks at $350 this summer in 56cm or so).

I will take a Waterford Paramount in 56cm, please. What brand/model bar does that have? I like the bend.

What a sweet deal you got on that bike.

Unfortunately, the Waterford is not a 56. I wish it was. It is smaller, I need to see if I get it to fit, as it will be a long time before I see another Waterford Paramount in my budget.

Here's my latest gargabe find. I have a post about here:

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...-1985-Trek-620

It is a 1985 Trek 620 touring bike that was left for the garbage truck to haul away but luckily I got to it before that happened. Yes, I confirmed with the homeowner that they were indeed trashing this bike before I loaded it on my Yakima rack.

wrk101 10-05-10 03:18 PM

Wow, that Trek 620 find is off the charts! Great find!!

HSean 10-07-10 08:16 AM

It must of been fate.
I was riding around on my birthday ones tuesday night hoping to find a gift for myself in the garbage, bikes! lol so anyway I was riding around with no luck for about an hour then noticed I lost my lock somewhere along the way, I just bought it so I wanted to go find it, I backtracked about five mins and seen it on the side of the road, as I went down to pick it up I noticed a bike tire, it was attached to a bike!. I found it weird how I missed this bike, I think the bike stole my lock so I could come back and save him. wich I did, the lights even lighted the way back home for me lol. It's a Eatons glider in awesome condition.
